“The deal is progressing” – Liverpool is negotiating to acquire a “incredibly fast” player, nearing full agreement – Romano.

This summer, Liverpool is completely overhauling its attacking lineup. With Mohamed Salah departing Anfield and Cody Gakpo likely to follow after Tottenham’s formal interest, the team is also dealing with Hugo Ekitike’s injury.

Victor Munoz has already joined the squad to enhance the wide positions, while Rio Ngumoha is being prepared for a significantly larger role in Andoni Iraola’s strategy. However, the key player who could unify this entire reconstruction is still Bradley Barcola, and the situation regarding his transfer has become much clearer.

Rumors about Barcola joining Liverpool have persisted throughout the summer, but Fabrizio Romano’s recent update offers more hope than ever.

On his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist disclosed that communication between the two clubs is now happening daily, and personal terms with the player have already been agreed upon.

“Regarding wingers, I want to emphasize: Liverpool is in daily talks with Paris Saint-Germain about Bradley Barcola.

“Liverpool has reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Bradley Barcola. He is eager to join Liverpool. Barcola has never been considered untouchable. Liverpool is prepared to make a strong move for him.

“So, the discussions are ongoing, and Liverpool is actively pursuing this. I can assure you of that. Now, it hinges on the financial agreement, but even on Thursday, there were discussions between PSG and Liverpool. Therefore, the deal is on.”

In essence, the player’s side of the agreement is nearly finalized. Barcola is keen on the transfer, and a verbal agreement regarding his terms at Anfield is already established. The remaining task is to finalize the club-to-club aspect: negotiating a transfer fee with PSG, who have previously valued their winger at as high as £145m, significantly more than Liverpool is prepared to offer.

It is clear why Liverpool has prioritized Barcola following Salah’s exit. Ekitike, who is familiar with him from the France national team, referred to the PSG winger as “incredibly fast” and highlighted his natural speed and directness as factors that make him one of the most thrilling wide players in Europe.

This remarkable speed aligns perfectly with the profile that Iraola has been pursuing throughout the summer, as he has publicly emphasized the importance of enhancing his wide options with pace and quality in his inaugural season at Anfield.

The statistics support the visual assessment. Barcola has recorded 34 goals and 28 assists in all competitions for PSG over the past two seasons, and his underlying metrics are even more impressive. Among wingers aged 23 and under, only Lamine Yamal had a higher expected goals + expected assists rate than Barcola last season, while Yan Diomande, initially considered to replace Salah, ranks fourth on that list.

Importantly, PSG’s transfer activities are beginning to align in favor of Liverpool. The French champions have reached an agreement for approximately €50m (£42.7m) for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres and are set to pay around €55m (£47m) for Ajax winger Mika Godts, providing Luis Enrique with the attacking depth necessary before allowing any Barcola transfer.

With replacements secured, the disparity between the valuations of the two clubs appears much more manageable than it did two weeks ago. Additionally, Tottenham’s interest in Gakpo could enhance Liverpool’s financial resources and further facilitate the arrival of a top-tier winger, indicating that all elements are starting to align for Liverpool’s significant summer acquisition.
