Newcastle United has reportedly settled on personal terms with a 23-year-old player as they aim to finalize a £25 million transfer.

The club is on the verge of signing Benfica right-back Amar Dedic.

Newcastle United has allegedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Benfica’s right-back Amar Dedic as they seek to complete a £25 million transfer.

The 23-year-old has been identified by Newcastle as a potential full-back addition this summer, having previously collaborated with head coach Matthias Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg.

Dedic made his first start for Benfica this season during the Europa League qualifier’s second leg against Heart of Midlothian on Thursday night.

Last season, Dedic faced Newcastle while playing for Benfica in the Champions League at St James’ Park, where the Magpies secured a 3-0 victory, with Anthony Gordon scoring first and Harvey Barnes netting a brace in the second half.

The Gazette has previously indicated that Dedic is enthusiastic about the transfer and the chance to reunite with Jaissle. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the defender has agreed to personal terms for a move to St James’ Park.

The only remaining step is to finalize the fee for the defender, who has been valued at approximately £30 million by Benfica. However, Newcastle is reportedly aiming for a deal closer to £25 million.

Romano stated: “Newcastle is closing in on the Amar Dedić deal! Personal terms have been agreed with the 23-year-old fullback. Dedić is eager for the #NUFC move, and the agreement is in the final stages with Benfica regarding the fee, which is over €30m (£25.63m) package.

With Benfica currently in Edinburgh, this presents a timely opportunity for both clubs to finalize the deal swiftly. Benfica president Rui Costa has also confirmed that there will be ‘some departures’ from the club before the month concludes.

After Newcastle’s 3-1 loss to Everton at Murrayfield on Wednesday night, Jaissle was questioned by The Gazette about his interest in signing Dedic.

“I will always maintain consistency,” he responded. “You can inquire about numerous names, and I have already seen many linked to us on social media, but I will not engage in those rumors, so you won’t receive any answers regarding specific names.”

Newcastle is urgently seeking a full-back this summer, as Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are both in recovery from injuries. This situation follows the departures of Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, and Emil Krafth, along with the loan exits of Alex Murphy and Harrison Ashby.
