Shocking Victor Osimhen transfer twist as Arsenal open talks with Galatasaray over sensational deal…

A surprising turn in the Victor Osimhen transfer saga has emerged as Arsenal initiates discussions with Galatasaray for a remarkable deal.

Reports indicate that Arsenal has begun negotiations with Galatasaray for a potential transfer of Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, which could finally see him join the Premier League. The Gunners are considering this move as part of broader talks with the Turkish club that also involve several other notable players potentially heading in the opposite direction.

Gunners focus on Nigerian star

In a shocking update for the transfer market, Arsenal has engaged in talks with Galatasaray about acquiring Osimhen, according to The Telegraph. The 27-year-old forward, who has been frequently linked to a move to England, made a permanent switch to the Istanbul club last summer for €75 million (£64.8m) after a well-publicized transfer saga with Napoli.

The Gunners have shifted their focus to Osimhen after facing obstacles in their pursuit of other targets. Initially, Arteta’s team had set their sights on Julian Alvarez as their main target for the summer transfer window, but Atletico Madrid has firmly resisted any attempts to sell.

Multiple transactions under consideration

The report suggests that Osimhen’s name surfaced during wider discussions between Arsenal and Galatasaray concerning the futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. The Turkish champions have already tested Arsenal’s determination with a €45m (£38.4m) offer for Martinelli, although the Brazilian winger is reportedly reluctant to move to the Super Lig, as per ESPN Brasil.

At the same time, negotiations are advancing regarding teenage talent Ethan Nwaneri. Arsenal is believed to have proposed the 19-year-old to Galatasaray for a €40m (£34.1m) fee, and the Turkish club is now progressing with plans to secure the former Marseille loanee.

Mikel’s endorsement and Champions League aspirations

The possibility of Osimhen joining Arsenal is strongly supported by Chelsea icon John Obi Mikel, who has openly discussed his fellow Nigerian’s future. Mikel has previously stated that the striker is eager to compete at the pinnacle of European football. In an interview with Metro, Mikel remarked: “I believe we want to see him in the Champions League, so perhaps Arsenal could be the right place. There might be an opportunity for Victor there.”

Obi Mikel, who was directly involved in Chelsea’s unsuccessful bid to acquire the striker in 2024, further commented: “I’ve had several discussions with him. I won’t disclose too much about those talks, but he is determined to ensure he lands in a top European league where he can display his skills and strive to win the Champions League.”

A shift in perspective in north London

Arsenal’s newfound interest signifies a notable change in their approach. The north London team had the opportunity to sign the Nigerian international back in 2024, but they ultimately opted against it due to the high costs associated with Napoli’s asking price at that time.

This potential transfer would represent a significant declaration of intent from Arteta, who is keen to secure a reliable source of goals for his squad. While Galatasaray has enjoyed success with Osimhen leading their offense, the appeal of the Premier League remains a crucial consideration for the player.
