Report: It appears the end is near, Liverpool coach is now prepared to depart

One coach at Liverpool is now poised to exit the club.

Despite being a polarizing figure at Anfield, Arne Slot will always be recognized for his accomplishments. Leading Liverpool to a Premier League title in his inaugural season is no minor achievement.

While it’s accurate to say he took over a solid base from Jurgen Klopp, Slot still implemented significant changes that were crucial in achieving that success.

Nevertheless, that initial victory does not exempt him from scrutiny now. This season, the onus is squarely on him, and it’s becoming harder to overlook the extent of Liverpool’s downturn. Since claiming the title, the team has experienced a performance slump that ranks among the worst in the club’s recent past.

The statistics are alarming. Slot has secured fewer than half of his matches throughout 2025, and this pattern has persisted into 2026. Liverpool has recorded only 13 wins in their last 26 matches, a performance that significantly underwhelms expectations for a club of their caliber.

Even more troubling is their league performance. After commencing the season with five straight victories, the momentum has completely dissipated. In the subsequent 29 Premier League fixtures, Liverpool has managed to win just 12.

For a club that demands reliability and excellence, those statistics are simply unacceptable.

Regardless of the credit Slot garnered for his first season, the current path raises serious worries – and unless results improve swiftly, it may be challenging for him to bounce back from this slump.

It’s crucial to acknowledge that the responsibility does not rest solely on Slot. This is a team endeavor, and even at the coaching level, there are numerous individuals supporting him.

One of the most prominent figures supporting Slot is Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He was brought in to succeed Johnny Heitinga, and given his experience as a coach with significant managerial credentials from his time at Feyenoord and Rangers, this appeared to be a wise choice.

Clearly, the outcomes on the field and Liverpool’s notably inadequate defensive structure have not cast Van Bronckhorst in a favorable light, indicating that he will face scrutiny as well.

However, it remains challenging to assess the extent of his accountability for Liverpool’s current struggles, as well as Heitinga’s role in the club’s achievements last season.

What is evident, nonetheless, is that Van Bronckhorst appears to be on the verge of departing from the club.

During a discussion on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Lewis Steele from the Daily Mail disclosed that Van Bronckhorst has an ‘agreement’ to exit the club and is being pursued by his previous team, Feyenoord.

“I believe Feyenoord is interested in appointing him as their technical director. They are quite eager about it,” Steele remarked. “He’s certainly in contention.”

“He has a year remaining on his contract with Liverpool, similar to Slot, but I suspect there’s an unspoken understanding that he could leave if he chooses to do so.

“Ultimately, it hinges on Feyenoord’s actions, but I think if Van Bronckhorst were offered that position, he would accept it. This, of course, creates a vacancy at Liverpool.”

Thus, it seems that Van Bronckhorst’s time at Liverpool is coming to an end.
