Xabi Alonso “ready to join” Liverpool – but has transfer condition: Report…

Xabi Alonso is reportedly “ready” to join Liverpool, provided they extend a suitable offer, as per a recent report from Germany.

Following the news of Mo Salah’s potential departure, Arne Slot’s future at Anfield is once again under scrutiny as Liverpool approaches a critical point in determining their future direction.

According to Axel Hesse of BILD, who previously reported on the pursuit of Florian Wirtz last summer and closely followed Alonso during his tenure in Germany, the Spaniard is “ready” for a move to Anfield.

If Liverpool “makes him a concrete offer, he will accept,” as long as his conditions are satisfied, particularly regarding his role in squad planning.

After being sidelined from his targets at Real Madrid, it is said that “he won’t allow that to happen again,” nor would he agree to take charge for the final months of the season.

As the head coach, Slot represents a strategic shift for Liverpool, as he is not directly managing the club’s transfers, although he collaborates closely with sporting director Richard Hughes.

With uncertainties surrounding the futures of Hughes and FSG’s Michael Edwards, especially with links to Saudi Arabia, there may be further upheaval in the club’s structure, which would be of concern and interest to Alonso.

Hesse notes that Liverpool “have been pursuing him intensely” and views him as the best chance to rejuvenate their top-class squad.

The connections to Alonso have remained strong in recent weeks and months, yet sources close to the club maintain that there are no intentions to part ways with Slot.

Regarding Arne Slot’s future: “No current plans” for Liverpool to dismiss him.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, who has a varied success rate, reports that there are “no current plans to move on” from Slot, as the hierarchy believes there are several mitigating factors for a disappointing season.

Nevertheless, “numerous sources believe there will be change regardless of what happens” due to Liverpool’s performances, results, and squad dynamics.

One of those changes could include Edwards after FSG shelved their plans to expand their portfolio and purchase a second club, which was the compelling reason for his return.

Slot, Hughes and Edwards are all contracted until 2027, and there has been no further encouragement that new deals are on the cards, with it all pointing to it coming to a head in the summer.

Liverpool will not be eager for uncertainty over key chief personnel to be peddled, understandably, which is why Hesse’s report will likely be refuted.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool move on from Slot and appoint their former midfielder, but the club are rapidly moving towards a summer that could have lasting repercussions.

From possible changes in the hierarchy and a new head coach, key players moving on, and player recruitment, there is a lot to unpack, and it all takes place in a World Cup summer, which will see the squad have staggered returns late in the summer.
