Report: FSG’s position on dismissing Arne Slot following the defeat to Wolves as Jurgen Klopp’s potential return to Liverpool is discussed.

Liverpool may finish the 2025/26 season without participating in the Champions League, yet there are currently no plans to terminate Arne Slot’s contract.

The financial implications of sacking Slot are under £10 million, and following a 2-1 loss to Wolves on Tuesday, the demand for a coaching change among Liverpool supporters persists.

Nevertheless, FSG intends to retain Slot for the time being, while the likelihood of Jurgen Klopp making a comeback to Anfield appears slim.

Reports this week suggest that Klopp might leave his position at Red Bull, with Oliver Glasner being mentioned as a possible replacement linked to Liverpool.

However, Graeme Bailey spoke to TEAMtalk, clarifying that the German manager will not return to Merseyside.

He stated: “Regarding Liverpool, he [Klopp] has a deep affection for the club and the city, but he will not be returning. He has completed his Premier League journey, and there is no desire from his side, nor does Liverpool seem inclined to revisit that chapter.”

Concerning Slot, it has been noted that FSG still holds hope for his success, and there are no immediate plans to alter the coaching staff.

Bailey further commented: “Arne Slot is under pressure. He understands the necessity for Champions League qualification. However, Liverpool is not inclined to dismiss him, although whether they might have no option but to do so remains to be seen.”

Two coaching opportunities for Jurgen Klopp post-Red Bull

While Klopp is not expected to return to Liverpool, speculation suggests he could depart from Red Bull soon.

Sky has reported this week that Real Madrid continues to monitor the former Red manager.

However, if Klopp does not transition to Spain, it is believed that the German National Team is observing his situation closely.

Julian Nagelsmann is currently at the helm, but a disappointing performance at the 2026 World Cup could shift focus towards the former Borussia Dortmund coach.
