Liverpool player ratings, winners and losers against Wolves as Florian Wirtz scores his first for the Reds, Jeremie Frimpong impresses, and Ryan Gravenberch finds the net.

Liverpool secured their third consecutive victory in the Premier League with Florian Wirtz excelling against the struggling Wolves.

Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring by finishing a pull-back from Jeremie Frimpong. Wirtz then added to the tally with a close-range shot after being set up by Hugo Ekitike, who found him in plenty of space.

From that point, the match seemed to be under control. However, Santiago Bueno managed to score when Ibrahima Konate was outjumped by Tolu Arokodare from a corner just minutes into the second half, reducing the deficit.

Winners

Wirtz’s first goal in English football was a significant highlight. Once again, he demonstrated his strong form, effectively linking up with Ekitike, which is another positive aspect. Wirtz appeared to be enjoying the match, and while he may not face many easier games this season, it was a pleasing performance nonetheless.

Losers

While not a poor performer, Federico Chiesa did not fully capitalize on his opportunity. There were moments when he could have been more effective with the ball. However, he often found himself isolated out wide with limited options. Chiesa will have more opportunities, but they may come more frequently from the bench, which seems to be where he can have the greatest impact.

Player ratings

Alisson Becker (7). He made several good catches early on from high crosses but had little to do overall, even when Wolves were pressing. The Brazilian was mostly a bystander and had no chance with the goal he conceded, though he could have improved his distribution at times.

Jeremie Frimpong (8). Initially playing as a right-back, a position many anticipated he would occupy most frequently upon his arrival, the Dutchman showcased remarkable speed. He provided width and was effective in tracking back to execute recovery tackles. His assist for the opening goal was commendable, as he skillfully outmaneuvered his opponent and delivered a precise pull-back.

Ibrahima Konate (6). At times, he was outmuscled by Tolu Arokodare, particularly evident during the Bueno goal, who proved to be a challenging opponent. However, the Frenchman ultimately managed to gain the upper hand. While some of his passing was slightly off-target, he performed adequately overall.

Virgil van Dijk (7). Although there were a couple of instances where his passes fell short, such occurrences were infrequent. His primary responsibility was to maintain the flow at the back, and he fulfilled that role effectively.

Milos Kerkez (6). He found himself in several promising crossing positions, though with mixed results. At one point, he blasted a shot over the bar and generally needed to exhibit more composure. He fought hard and showed improvement in the second half compared to the first.

Ryan Gravenberch (7). He delivered a composed finish to open the scoring when Liverpool was in need of a spark. Prior to that moment, he had kept his play straightforward, and his finish was no exception, as he placed the ball into the corner.

Curtis Jones (7). He displayed some neat and tidy touches in crowded areas, though he wasn’t as engaged as he had been in previous matches. Nonetheless, he performed decently and enjoyed drifting into the penalty area, creating space for teammates to exploit. He needed to assist the team in maintaining possession more effectively in the second half.

Federico Chiesa (6). He appeared somewhat isolated on the right wing. The Italian had a few notable moments but little beyond that and struggled to last long into the second half after spending an extended period on the bench.

Alexis Mac Allister (6). He had a shot that struck the woodwork in the first half and worked hard to regain possession. He also delivered a couple of decent corners. However, he was guilty of relinquishing possession too easily during one dangerous counter.

Florian Wirtz (8). His touches and passes appeared effortless. The German displayed his usual silky skills and seemed to have a spring in his step. This confidence was likely boosted after he netted his first Premier League goal, which he finished well after being set up by Ekitike.

Hugo Ekitike (7). He struck the base of the post early in the match and later delivered a perfect assist for Wirtz’s goal. While not consistently involved throughout the game, he was impactful when opportunities arose.

Substitutes

Conor Bradley (7). Returning from his latest injury, Bradley was gradually reintegrated into the match and kept his play straightforward. He didn’t have many touches or significant defensive duties.

However, he made a crucial interception late in the game to prevent Arokodare from getting a close-range shot. Cody Gakpo also entered the field, taking Ekitike’s place, and Trey Nyoni came on as a late substitute for Wirtz, but his entry was too late to warrant a rating.
