FIFA’s official statement has shocked football fans everywhere! Liverpool was unfairly impacted by VAR in the Champions League round of 16.

FIFA has released an official statement that has sent shockwaves through the football community, as Liverpool faces controversy over a VAR decision in the Champions League round of 16.

Liverpool received an immediate response regarding a penalty decision from the referee after a controversial moment involving Dominik Szoboszlai.

The team faced elimination from European competition following a penalty shoot-out loss to PSG.

Having been at the top of the Champions League in January, Liverpool’s journey ended abruptly by mid-March, as they succumbed to PSG in a tense shoot-out at Anfield.

The team’s composure faltered at a critical juncture, a stark contrast to their usual resilience in such situations.

Paris Saint-Germain won the coin toss after an intense 120 minutes and opted to shoot towards the Anfield Road end, where their supporters were gathered.

The Kop looked on in disbelief as both Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones had their penalties thwarted by Gianluigi Donnarumma, the goalkeeper who had previously troubled England during Euro 2020.

This marked only the second occasion Liverpool has lost a penalty shoot-out in European competitions, effectively ending their aspirations for a treble this season.

Mark Clattenburg and Alan Shearer provided their insights on whether Liverpool should have received a penalty late in the first half against PSG.

Arne Slot’s team expressed frustration after Szoboszlai went down near the penalty area following a challenge from Fabian Ruiz, with the Hungarian appearing to be struck on the back of the leg.

Despite strong appeals from Liverpool players, referee Istvan Kovacs dismissed the claims and allowed play to continue. VAR reviewed the incident but upheld the referee’s decision.

During co-commentary for Amazon Prime, former Newcastle United striker Shearer commented, “He has made contact, but I’m not convinced there is sufficient evidence for a penalty to be awarded.”

Ex-Premier League referee Clattenburg provided insight into why the on-field referee and VAR opted not to award a penalty, stating: “While there is a kick to the back of the thigh, there appears to be a moment of hesitation… he contemplates the contact before going down, which is what the referee and VAR observed.”

Although Liverpool started brightly, PSG took the lead in the 12th minute. Ousmane Dembele capitalized on a defensive error from Liverpool, scoring from close range.

This equalized the aggregate score at 1-1, following Slot’s team’s 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes the previous Wednesday.

As the first half progressed, both teams had opportunities, but neither could convert.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was rumored to be moving to Liverpool last summer, nearly scored with a powerful shot that deflected over the bar, while Mohamed Salah had the best chance for Liverpool, but his attempt was bloc ked.
