Arne Slot shares his perspective on Arsenal’s potential to win the Champions League following Liverpool’s loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Following Liverpool’s loss to PSG, Arne Slot expresses his views on Arsenal’s potential to secure the Champions League title.
With Liverpool’s exit from the tournament at the hands of PSG, Arsenal and Aston Villa remain the only English clubs competing in this season’s Champions League.
Although Slot’s team topped the new league phase of the competition, they faced a challenging matchup against PSG, who rightfully advanced.
Slot accepted the defeat gracefully, while Liverpool now looks to regroup for their upcoming Carabao Cup final and the remainder of the Premier League season.
Currently, Liverpool holds a significant 15-point advantage over Arsenal in the league, making it unlikely for the Gunners to mount a serious comeback.
Consequently, all attention turns to the Champions League for Arsenal, who are set to face either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals.
In his post-match press conference, Slot referred to Arsenal as a “very good” team following Liverpool’s Champions League exit.
When asked if he believed PSG could win the Champions League after eliminating his team, Slot concurred, stating, “Yes, they can, but they are not the only contenders.”
He emphasized that the outcome often hinges on two matches, where luck can play a significant role.
When questioned about PSG’s status as favorites, Slot acknowledged Arsenal’s capabilities alongside other top European teams.
He remarked, “I haven’t faced all of them, but I currently have a high regard for Barcelona, and Arsenal is a very strong team, along with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Bayern Munich. It will be a competitive race, just like tonight.”
As for Arsenal’s journey to the Champions League final, it appears they are well-positioned to advance past PSV Eindhoven, given their commanding 7-1 lead.
Arteta’s team will face one of the Madrid clubs in the quarter-finals, as previously noted.
