Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot has released information concerning the injuries of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate ahead of the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot provides updates on the injuries of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate of Liverpool both sustained injuries during Tuesday’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended in a home defeat for the Reds.

Slot expressed that he would be “surprised” if Alexander-Arnold is fit to play in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, although he holds a more positive outlook regarding Konate’s condition.

Both players exited the match during the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, where Liverpool lost 4-1 in a penalty shootout after PSG equalized the aggregate score with a 1-0 victory in regular time.

Alexander-Arnold left the field in the 73rd minute after appearing to injure his knee, while Konate was unable to finish extra time at Anfield.

This situation raises concerns for Liverpool as they prepare to compete for their first trophy of the season against Newcastle at Wembley.

In his post-match comments, Slot stated, “I need to check, but I believe Ibou was more fatigued than injured. Trent, however, had to come off, which is never a positive indication.

From what I’ve gathered from those who witnessed the incident, it didn’t look promising. Therefore, I would be surprised if he is ready for Sunday.”

Regarding the potential physical toll on his team from playing 120 minutes just days before the final, Slot remarked, “The positive aspect is that we have a final on Sunday, which is likely the best motivation we could ask for, as this is what we play football for: to compete in finals.

We then have two-and-a-half weeks before the season resumes. If we can maintain this level of intensity in our matches, especially at home with the support of our fans, I am genuinely excited about the conclusion of the season.”

Jarell Quansah, 22, is poised to take over for Alexander-Arnold, as Slot is unable to rely on his two right-back options, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez, due to injuries.

Both Quansah and Gomez are also potential candidates to fill in for Konate at center-back, making it crucial for the Reds to have him fit for selection.

Newcastle faces its own challenges, with forward Anthony Gordon serving a suspension and manager Eddie Howe missing defenders Sven Botman and Lewis Hall due to injuries.

However, star striker Alexander Isak is anticipated to be fit to start, as concerns regarding his fitness have eased.
