Arsenal is taking significant steps to enhance their squad ahead of the summer transfer window, with major deals on the horizon.

Reports indicate that Arsenal has “accepted conditions” to acquire a Brazilian talent, signaling the club’s intent to ramp up their summer activities.

Manager Mikel Arteta has been relatively inactive in the transfer market over the past year, choosing to develop the squad that narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City, rather than implementing extensive changes.

However, following a lackluster season where Liverpool currently leads by 13 points with only 12 matches remaining, Arsenal may adopt a more aggressive strategy in the upcoming transfer market.

The club is expected to make sales and pursue significant signings across various positions.

A new forward is a clear priority for Arteta’s team, especially with Kai Havertz sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury and Gabriel Jesus facing an extended absence due to an ACL injury.

Even prior to these setbacks, the need for an additional forward was already being discussed.

Arsenal is also looking for wide attackers, particularly with Raheem Sterling’s departure and uncertainty surrounding Leandro Trossard’s future. The potential exits of Thomas Partey and Jorginho further exacerbate the need for reinforcements.

Additionally, the backup goalkeeper position is under consideration, as the on-loan Neto is set to return to Bournemouth this summer, with Joan Garcia being a rumored target.

Interestingly, Arsenal has initiated discussions to sign another right-back. According to Bolavip Brasil, the club is interested in Wesley Franca from Flamengo.

Wesley has a €200 million release clause, but Flamengo is reportedly open to negotiating a €35 million transfer following the Club World Cup. Arsenal has “promised” to take action and submit an offer.

The report suggests that Arsenal has agreed to “Flamengo’s conditions to purchase” the 21-year-old, who would serve as a backup for both Ben White and Jurrien Timber.

Given the injury challenges faced this season, Thomas Partey has also filled in at right-back, indicating that Wesley could potentially take over that role as well.

Arsenal may possess two significant advantages in this negotiation. Former Gunners player David Luiz, who departed the club amicably, has played alongside Wesley and could potentially endorse a move to N5.

Additionally, Jorginho is reportedly linked with Flamengo, which might allow Arsenal to facilitate his departure on a free transfer, thereby enhancing their negotiating position.

How would Wesley integrate into Arteta’s strategy?

Arteta has largely moved away from utilizing traditional flying full-backs in his tactical approach, initially replacing Kieran Tierney with Oleksandr Zinchenko, and subsequently adopting a system that features players like Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly in full-back roles.

While the inclusion of a player reminiscent of ‘Alves’ may appear unconventional, it is essential.

Arsenal has greatly benefited from White’s overlapping runs on the right side, which have allowed Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard to thrive.

The team’s dynamics are heavily reliant on this trio, and in White’s absence this season, the overall performance has significantly declined, particularly for Odegaard.

This season, Arsenal has secured only two victories in eight matches where Partey has been deployed as a right-back, in contrast to two losses in 16 starts when he has played in midfield.

Timber also does not provide the overlapping full-back option, but Wesley could fill that role effectively.

With Arsenal facing a depleted squad this season, the 21-year-old Brazilian brings the energy and intensity needed to stretch opposing defenses as a valuable squad option.

As a developing talent, he is likely to command a modest salary and playing time, while also offering competition and depth.

Given the challenges posed by numerous injuries, the addition of players like Wesley could prove crucial in determining whether Arsenal secures trophies or faces further disappointments.
