Thiago reflects on the unique aspect Liverpool provided him that Barcelona and Bayern could not.

Former players have often lauded Liverpool, but few accolades resonate as deeply or sincerely as Thiago Alcantara’s insights regarding his experience at Anfield.

In a conversation with Coaches’ Voice, our ex-No.6 shared how his time under Jurgen Klopp influenced him both as a footballer and an individual, characterizing Liverpool as the club that ultimately offered him the ideal blend of dominance and diligence.

Thiago: ‘At Liverpool, I discovered everything I cherished.’

“My experience at Liverpool included all the elements I seek in a club and everything I have always adored,” he remarked.

“The thrill of vying for every trophy, being assertive on the field, while also embodying the spirit of a club that demands a daily struggle for success.

“It wasn’t that we lacked anything specific; it was simply a matter of putting in the effort.”

Thiago also expressed his admiration for Klopp, referring to him as a “manager who can adjust any situation to benefit the team.”

He elaborated that the German’s knack for uncovering positives in every obstacle imparted lessons he now applies as part of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff at Barcelona.

The Spaniard remarked: “With Klopp, there are no adverse situations; only instances that need to be redirected to favor your team.

“He succeeded in instilling that flow of energy and direction, ensuring everyone followed his lead.”

Now 34, he retired last summer and has joined Flick’s team in Catalonia, a transition that Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed was “strongly desired by both men.”

Liverpool fans will surely appreciate his continued fondness for the club – especially after he humorously told Zlatan Ibrahimovic that he doesn’t speak English, but rather “Scouse.”

Liverpool’s impact persists as Thiago embarks on his coaching journey.

He acknowledged that his shift to coaching felt organic, stemming from years spent guiding younger teammates.

“Even while you’re still on the field, you begin to recognize patterns and assist others,” he remarked.

“That interest in coaching develops. Slowly, as your playing days diminish, you start contemplating how to keep utilizing your understanding of the game.”

Liverpool has witnessed numerous former players return to Anfield in coaching or ambassadorial capacities, and few would object if Thiago were to eventually pursue that route.

At present, he is in Spain, implementing insights gained from a career that led him through Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and ultimately, a club he claims provided him with “everything I cherished.”
