Saka, Odegaard, and Havertz: Latest on Arsenal Injuries as ‘Surgery’ Claims Arise..

Arsenal’s injury updates include Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, both of whom have faced challenges this season.

Mikel Arteta is dealing with several injury concerns for Arsenal, having only completed two Premier League matches this season. Although both games resulted in victories and clean sheets for the Gunners, the emerging fitness issues may overshadow this early success.

Before the match against Manchester United, Christian Norgaard was already considered an injury doubt. During the 1-0 victory at Old Trafford, both Kai Havertz and Ben White encountered problems, which sidelined them for last weekend’s match against newly-promoted Leeds United.

The atmosphere was initially high following Eberechi Eze’s unveiling at the Emirates Stadium before kick-off, but it quickly shifted when Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard had to leave the field due to hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.

Here are the latest injury updates on the five Arsenal stars currently facing issues.

Bukayo Saka

After missing several months last season due to a hamstring injury, there was understandable concern when Saka was seen clutching the back of his leg. Fortunately, it appears that this is not a recurrence of his previous injury, as it involves his other hamstring, which required surgery.

According to The Guardian, Saka’s injury is not as severe as initially feared, with the BBC reporting that he is expected to be out for up to four weeks.

Arteta’s comments: “While running with the ball and engaging with the defender, Bukayo felt something in his hamstring. We will see. I believe it is the other one, not the same as before.

“He experienced something while sprinting, which is never a positive sign.

“We will need to wait until tomorrow [Sunday] to consult with the doctors and gain a clearer understanding of his condition. He has dealt with these injuries before and knows the sensation well. So, we will wait.”

Expected return date: September/October

Martin Odegaard

Considering this was a significant issue for Odegaard, the expectation is that he is unlikely to be sidelined for an extended period, and football.london reports that his injury is not as severe as initially believed.

The anticipation is that he will be ready to compete against Liverpool this weekend.

What Arteta has said: “So, Martin felt something in his shoulder when he landed. We don’t know. We’ll have to scan him tomorrow and understand a bit better.”

Possible return date: Liverpool (A) – Sunday, August 31

Kai Havertz

It remains uncertain how long Havertz will be unavailable due to the knee injury sustained against Man Utd. However, it certainly appears to be serious, especially with Leandro Trossard signing a new contract and Eze being acquired.

According to The Standard, it is still being considered whether the 26-year-old will need surgery, as Germany national team director Rudi Voller has excluded him from the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland.

“We don’t know exactly how it will progress in the coming weeks, whether surgery is necessary or if it will be managed conservatively,” he stated.

What Arteta has said: “He’s certainly not fit for this match [vs Leeds], unfortunately.

“We don’t really know yet the extent of it. I think we need a bit more time and some more tests and – after that – we will have more clarity about the next steps. Now, he’s got a setback, let’s see how bad it is.”

Possible return date: Unknown

Ben White

White

White was substituted for Jurrien Timber in the starting lineup to face Leeds on Saturday evening. It does not appear to be a serious injury, as Arteta has not ruled him out of last weekend’s victory.

What Arteta has said: “With Ben, let’s see…”

Possible return date: Liverpool (A) – Sunday, August 31

Christian Norgaard

Norgaard has yet to make his competitive debut for Arsenal due to what seems to be a minor injury. The hope is that he will make his debut before the first international break, but it appears more likely that it will occur afterward.

What Arteta mentioned: “Christian will not be part of the squad [against Leeds]. [He] will be unavailable for approximately another week.”

Expected return date: Nottingham Forest (H) – Saturday, September 13

Gabriel Jesus

Following a significant knee injury sustained in January, Gabriel Jesus is not anticipated to return until later this year.

Expected return date: October/November
