Report: Arsenal in advanced discussions to secure a surprising £40m signing

Arsenal positioned to finalize a £40m agreement as competitors encounter a significant setback

Arsenal’s activity in the transfer market is not over, with a defensive reinforcement likely on the horizon. The situation is now quite promising.

Arsenal is engaged in advanced negotiations to acquire Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié, aiming to bolster their left defensive flank before the transfer window closes.

The Ecuadorian international has been closely monitored by the club’s scouting team, who have observed him multiple times.

The 23-year-old has already earned 46 caps for his national team and possesses a €60m (£52m) release clause; however, Arsenal is optimistic about reaching an agreement closer to £40m.

The club sees Hincapié as a valuable addition to their left defense, with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior likely to be moved on.

Additionally, Arsenal is looking to generate extra funds, with Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira, and Reiss Nelson all available for transfer.

Porto is among the clubs interested in Kiwior, while Zinchenko has also received inquiries.

Hincapié has made a name for himself as one of the most dependable young defenders in the Bundesliga.

His versatility across the back line, combined with his speed and ball-handling skills, makes him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach.

Although he has primarily played centrally, the left-footed defender also possesses the qualities needed to fulfill an overlapping full-back role—something Arsenal currently lacks in their lineup.

While Tottenham was previously considered a potential contender for his signature, sources confirm that Spurs are not actively pursuing the player.

This situation presents Arsenal with a clear chance to acquire one of South America’s most promising defensive talents, although financial constraints remain a significant hurdle.

Having already invested over £200m in signings this summer, the Gunners are concentrating on financial stability before proceeding with additional transactions.

If they can finalize player departures in a timely manner, Arsenal may still have the means to secure Hincapié, who is believed to be eager to leave Leverkusen before the deadline.
