£35m Juventus striker ‘open’ to joining Leeds as Whites are linked with electric triple swoop…
£35m Juventus striker is ‘open’ to joining Leeds as the Whites are linked with an exciting triple swoop.
Leeds United are poised to expedite their plans to acquire a new striker this summer. Amid reports that a 106-goal Belgium international is eager to move to Elland Road, the Whites are also associated with two additional forwards as the transfer window approaches.
Daniel Farke’s team can now officially commence preparations for their second season in the Premier League after securing safety with three matches remaining. Sunday’s 1-0 home loss for West Ham against Arsenal ensures that Leeds cannot be overtaken, and at the very least, the Whites will conclude this season in 16th place.
Nevertheless, with significant prize money still at stake, Leeds will not be complacent as they head to face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening.
Behind the scenes, the club’s owners, 49ers Enterprises, are intensifying their efforts to elevate Leeds in the league next season and are prepared to invest further in enhancing their squad this summer.
In line with this, acquiring another striker to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha is a top priority for the club, especially after they made a strong push – but ultimately fell short – in signing Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves in January.
Recent strong reports from Italy indicate that Leeds are interested in signing Lois Openda from Juventus, who will finalize a £35m (€40m, $45m) obligation to join the Bianconeri on a permanent basis from RB Leipzig this summer.
Now, Football Insider reveals that Openda is indeed open to a transfer to Elland Road this summer, with Juventus willing to allow the 106-goal Belgium international to depart after a challenging season in Turin.
According to their report, the Whites are ready to offer substantial wages to entice the 26-year-old to Elland Road this summer.
He is not the only striker on Leeds’ radar, as the same source suggests that the Whites are also closely monitoring Wilson Isidor, amid reports that the 25-year-old is eager to leave the Stadium of Light this summer.
Isidor, who initially joined the Black Cats on loan from Zenit St Petersburg, has netted 18 goals in 79 matches for Sunderland. The 25-year-old was first associated with Leeds last summer prior to the Black Cats’ promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.
Another player being linked with Leeds once more is Everton striker Beto, who will be out of contract at the Hill-Dickinson Stadium in the summer of 2027 – and there may be an opportunity for 49ers Enterprises to investigate…
Leeds is eager to acquire a new striker amidst significant updates regarding Beto. The Whites were initially connected with Beto last summer, but any efforts to secure his signing were swiftly thwarted by Everton, who recognized they could not afford to lose two key strikers simultaneously after it became evident that Calvert-Lewin would be departing Merseyside as a free agent.
Calvert-Lewin, of course, subsequently signed with Leeds United.
However, a year later, the chance for a second attempt to acquire a player from Everton remains a possibility.
The 28-year-old has scored 10 goals this season, equaling his total from the previous year and raising his overall tally to 25 goals in 109 appearances for the Toffees.
Given that the 49ers frequently target players with only a year left on their contracts, it would not be surprising if the Whites were to reignite their pursuit of the Guinea-Bissau striker to bring him to West Yorkshire.
Everton would understandably prefer to secure Beto with a new contract, and they are prepared to present him with fresh terms this summer to ensure his future at the Hill-Dickinson Stadium.
