‘Top-drawer’ – Liverpool backed to pursue shock transfer move for Real Madrid star…

Liverpool is reportedly considering a bold move to re-sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid, just a year after his transfer to the Spanish club.

After spending two decades at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold made the switch to Madrid last summer on a free transfer.

However, the 27-year-old faced a challenging first season in Spain, with injuries and changes in management restricting him to only 14 starts in La Liga.

This performance ultimately led to his exclusion from England’s World Cup squad, as manager Thomas Tuchel chose Reece James and Tino Livramento as the right-backs for his initial 26-man selection.

With Jose Mourinho taking over at Madrid this summer, Alexander-Arnold is likely to face further changes, including increased competition following the signing of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.

Former Chelsea player Andy Townsend believes Liverpool should take advantage of this situation and attempt to bring the full-back back to Anfield this summer.

“First and foremost, purely as a player, if he returned to Liverpool, would he enhance their squad? Absolutely, yes,” Townsend stated on talkSPORT.

“I don’t have a right-back like Frimpong. Full-backs are crucial in today’s game, contributing significantly to a team’s attacking play. If you can’t provide a decent delivery when in a good position, and from what I’ve observed, he hasn’t shown that final ball, which Trent can deliver effortlessly.

“Therefore, I believe he would definitely improve the team. The real question is how the club would perceive this move. It might be a tough reality for some Liverpool supporters to accept.

New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has utilized Jeremie Frimpong and Calvin Ramsey at right-back during pre-season, while Conor Bradley is still recovering from a serious knee injury sustained in January.

However, Townsend is of the opinion that a short-term agreement to reinstate Alexander-Arnold’s talent at Liverpool could be mutually beneficial as the new season approaches.

‘Real Madrid has acquired Denzel Dumfries from Inter, who would undoubtedly align more closely with Jose Mourinho’s requirements,’ he continued.

‘They have Valverde and several other players, providing ample depth in that position. Therefore, if you’re Trent, at this point in pre-season, he will want to believe he has a solid chance of starting and moving forward.

‘Yet, he cannot afford another season like the previous one. That would have been quite disappointing for him. Deep down, he might have felt a bit hurt that things didn’t pan out as expected, and it never really took off.

‘If Liverpool could arrange any sort of loan deal for him for the season, regardless of the fees involved, whether it’s £5 million or even £10 million, I wouldn’t dismiss that opportunity to bring him back, as he is exceptional.’

Currently, Liverpool seems to be focusing on acquiring a new wide forward following Mohamed Salah’s exit.

The Reds have initiated discussions with Paris Saint-Germain regarding Bradley Barcola, although it remains uncertain if they will agree to the £145 million asking price for the French winger.
