Sources: Newcastle leads the race to acquire AC Milan star

AC Milan is willing to allow Fikayo Tomori to join Newcastle this summer, according to information from Football Insider.

Tomori has been a long-standing target for Eddie Howe and is now poised to depart from the San Siro ahead of the upcoming season.

Newcastle had shown interest in the England centre-back last summer, but he opted to remain at Milan, where he made 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2025-26 season.

Milan has placed Tomori, whose contract expires in June 2027, on the market before the summer transfer window closes.

As I mentioned in the latest episode of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Newcastle is expected to take the lead in the competitive pursuit of his services as Howe seeks to enhance his defensive lineup.

The Magpies’ manager recognizes the aging nature of his current centre-back options, while some of his younger players have been linked with moves away from the club this summer.

Fikayo Tomori could potentially join Newcastle following AC Milan’s recent developments.

Since joining Milan permanently from Chelsea in 2021, Tomori has been a consistent presence in the team’s defense.

At 28 years old, he is attracting interest from various clubs across Europe, and a return to the Premier League appears likely if Newcastle revisits negotiations for him.

During the Transfer Insider podcast, I noted: “If Eddie Howe aims to strengthen his defensive lineup, Tomori is certainly someone who would be on his radar.

“I anticipate that multiple clubs, both in the Premier League and other European leagues, will show interest in Tomori, especially since Milan seems open to selling him. Therefore, it could turn into a competitive race for him if Milan decides to facilitate his transfer.”

Johan Manzambi is expected to be the next signing for Newcastle following an agreement with Freiburg.

Tomori’s situation may continue to develop until the end of the summer transfer window, as numerous clubs across Europe are keen on acquiring his services.

Newcastle has had a challenging start to the transfer window, but positive developments are anticipated in the coming days as a new signing is finalized.
