Report: Liverpool want to sign ‘one of the best defenders in the world’ alongside Frimpong after Trent exit…

Liverpool is reportedly interested in acquiring one of the world’s top defenders, Jonathan Tah, to strengthen their squad following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure.

The club aims to outpace other European teams in securing the Bayer Leverkusen star this summer, especially after a successful Premier League campaign that culminated in a decisive 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, marking their first league title in five years and breaking Manchester City’s stronghold.

The recruitment team is eager to add an experienced player like Tah, who is currently in his prime.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool is among several clubs looking to sign Tah, who has had an impressive ten-year tenure at Leverkusen.

With only six months remaining on his contract, he is poised to become a free agent, making him a prime target for the Reds.

Other clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan, have also expressed interest, with discussions already initiated with Barcelona, although no deal has been finalized.

This situation has put Arne Slot and Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong on alert, as Frimpong is being considered as a potential replacement for the Madrid-bound Alexander-Arnold.

Tah played a crucial role in helping Leverkusen secure their first Bundesliga title last season and has contributed to their strong performance this season, currently placing them second in the league.

At 29 years old, this may be his last opportunity for a significant transfer, and he is capable of fitting into any top club.

Liverpool currently lacks an immediate requirement for him following Virgil van Dijk’s contract renewal; however, having additional depth is beneficial.

Tah would significantly enhance this depth, especially considering Joe Gomez’s injury issues, Jarell Quansah’s recent errors, and Joel Matip’s summer exit, which left the Reds without a centre-back.

Furthermore, Tah’s reliability in maintaining a spot in the lineup would be advantageous for Slot as the team aims for success in upcoming competitions.
