Darwin Nunez is close to leaving Liverpool after agreeing to terms with a new club.

Reports from Spain indicate that the Liverpool striker has reached a verbal agreement to transfer to Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Uruguayan forward has faced challenges in securing playing time under Arne Slot this season, having started only eight Premier League matches.

Liverpool is willing to sell Nunez during the summer transfer window, but they may struggle to recover their initial investment of £64 million for the 25-year-old.

The total cost of Liverpool’s acquisition of Nunez from Benfica in 2022 amounts to £85 million, including add-ons.

Cadena SER reports that Atletico has already engaged in discussions with Nunez, who has expressed a desire to join Diego Simeone’s team this summer.

The only remaining hurdle for Atletico is to negotiate a transfer fee with Liverpool.

Additionally, Napoli has shown interest in Nunez, and he also has the option to move to the Saudi Pro League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is nearing the completion of their first summer signing, as Jeremie Frimpong has successfully undergone his medical examination.

The 24-year-old, who has a €35 million (£29.5 million) release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract, is Liverpool’s preferred choice to succeed Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Premier League champions are also in discussions to acquire Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.
