Andrea Berta is currently engaged in negotiations for four Arsenal transfers following the acquisition of Martin Zubimendi, as the Gunners’ chief evaluates two striker options.

Berta, who took on the role of sporting director in March, is gearing up for a significant summer in managing player movements at Arsenal.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club has reached a verbal agreement for Zubimendi’s transfer from Real Sociedad, having previously turned down Liverpool’s interest.

Romano stated, ‘Arsenal have agreed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, and he has verbally committed to a long-term contract, with formalities to follow soon to activate the €60m release clause.

Zubimendi is set to be the first signing of the new season.’

Additionally, TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey has reported that Berta is focusing on acquiring a new striker, with a strong interest in Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, who has netted an impressive 25 goals in 2025, leading the scoring charts across Europe.

Arsenal is believed to have made their initial official offer to Sporting, estimated at around €75m (£63m).

However, Bailey notes that Berta is also considering a move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko instead of the Swedish forward.

He remarked, ‘Berta is actively working on incoming transfers, and it is clear that securing a new number nine is a priority.

While it appears increasingly likely that either Gyokeres or Sesko will be the target, the decision remains uncertain.’

Furthermore, Bailey indicated that Berta is also focused on extending contracts for key players William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Bailey disclosed that Berta is negotiating contract extensions for key players William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Saliba’s new contract has become a top priority for Berta, especially with ongoing rumors linking the French defender to Real Madrid, where president Florentino Perez has expressed his admiration for Saliba during discussions with Arsenal officials following their recent Champions League match.

‘Berta is diligently pursuing new contracts for his players,’ Bailey stated. ‘Securing new agreements for Saliba, Saka, and Magalhaes has been one of their primary goals this summer, alongside Zubimendi, and discussions have been held with all three parties.’

Additionally, acquiring a left winger is also a significant focus, with Berta reportedly monitoring AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, but Nico Williams is believed to be the preferred target, especially after the Athletic Club player recently indicated he would not be moving to Barcelona.
