Liverpool have chance to recall Ifeanyi Ndukwe from loan as Levante debut clears work permit hurdle
Ifeanyi Ndukwe is set to become eligible to play for Liverpool this season after making his competitive debut for Levante, according to Liverpool ECHO.
The 18-year-old centre-back came off the bench in the 71st minute during Levante’s 4-2 home defeat to La Liga champions Barcelona on Sunday.
Ndukwe joined Liverpool from Austria Vienna for £2.6 million after impressing during a trial spell with the Reds in pre-season. The move had been agreed in principle earlier in the year before being finalised.
The teenager made a strong impression during Liverpool’s summer friendlies but was initially unable to play competitive matches for the club because of work permit issues.
However, his appearance for Levante has now moved Ndukwe closer to meeting the requirements for a permit, meaning he should be eligible to represent Liverpool later this season.
Liverpool will also have an exemption spot available from February, which would allow the defender to feature if required.
The Reds could additionally recall Ndukwe from his loan spell in January if they decide he is ready to be involved with the first team.
