Liverpool is reportedly ‘closing in’ on a Premier League star as their next summer signing, placing them in a ‘pole position’ for a potentially ‘frightening’ deal.

As per reports, Liverpool is making significant progress towards their sixth summer signing, being in a favorable position to acquire a Premier League player.

The Reds are acting swiftly in this summer’s transfer window, having already secured key signings after clinching their 20th Premier League title during Arne Slot’s inaugural season.

This summer, Liverpool stands out as the biggest spenders, with nearly £200m allocated to sign Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman.

While this already marks a successful transfer window, Liverpool is not done yet, as reports indicate they are still seeking a striker, winger, and centre-back, with several high-profile departures expected to generate funds.

It has been widely reported that their primary striker target is Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, and they intend to play the ‘waiting game’ to secure their ‘dream’ target, with Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Hugo Ekitike mentioned as possible alternatives.

Additionally, Liverpool has been linked with wingers, with reports connecting them to Luis Diaz, while standout Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace seems to be their top target for a centre-back.

Indications suggest that Crystal Palace may be willing to sell the England international, who is approaching the final year of his contract.

Last summer, Guehi missed a potential transfer to Newcastle United due to their failure to meet his reported £70m asking price.

However, he is now more likely to depart this summer as his value has diminished, and Liverpool has entered the competition to sign him.

Earlier this week, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness asserted that Guehi’s anticipated “frightening” transfer to Liverpool “will go through.”

Wyness stated: “I believe it’s an excellent deal. I think Palace also acknowledges that he has just another year left on his contract.

Therefore, they would prefer to cash in as well. All parties could end up very satisfied.

“If you recall the time when Virgil van Dijk transferred from Southampton, he was a significant investment back then, yet he has proven to be an excellent acquisition. He has performed exceptionally well. I believe that he and Guehi, provided they maintain their fitness, would be outstanding together.

“I hesitate to say it, but indeed, it seems like a promising signing for Liverpool, and I anticipate that it will materialize.”

Currently, a report from The Mirror suggests that Liverpool is ‘closing in’ on Guehi, having taken the ‘lead position’ for the center-back.

With Liverpool ‘in a favorable position’, it is mentioned that ‘discussions among all parties are expected to occur within the next 24 hours’.

It is highlighted that there are ‘obstacles to navigate’, as Palace ‘aims to secure a fee exceeding £40m’, recognizing that they cannot demand £70m at this stage of his contract.

The report states:

‘Crystal Palace values their England center-back at around £70 million but is pragmatic enough to understand that potential buyers will not meet that figure since Guehi has only 12 months left on his contract.

However, they will still seek a fee above £40 million, especially considering Chelsea included a 20 percent sell-on clause when they transferred Guehi to Palace for £18 million in 2021.

‘With numerous options available for Guehi, Liverpool may also need to persuade him that he will be a regular starter.’
