Fabrizio Romano has shared a new development concerning Riccardo Calafiori’s rumored transfer to Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano recently provided an update on Arsenal’s potential signing of Riccardo Calafiori, indicating that negotiations between the Gunners and the player are progressing positively.

While a deal has not been finalized, discussions between the two parties are reportedly taking place on a regular basis.

Arsenal is once again preparing to invest in the transfer market, as they continue to bring in talented players like Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and David Raya to their first team in recent years.

Looking towards the future, the club is now in advanced discussions with Calafiori, indicating that a deal is nearing completion and progressing on a daily basis.

Arsenal is reportedly interested in signing Calafiori.

Recent reports indicate that Juventus was initially considered the frontrunner to secure the services of the talented Italian defender following his impressive performances at Bologna.

However, it seems that Calafiori is now leaning towards a potential move to the north London club.

Talks between Arsenal and the player are said to be progressing well, bringing the deal closer to completion with each passing day.

Despite the lack of progress on those rumors, other teams have moved quickly after Italy’s impressive EURO 2024 run, with Arsenal being one of them.

The Gunners have allegedly reached an agreement on personal terms with the ex-Roma player, offering a weekly wage of approximately £65,000.

The only remaining step is to negotiate a transfer fee with Bologna, aiming to secure the player before the pre-season begins, allowing him to integrate with the squad and make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

Romano: Arsenal and Bologna in Daily Negotiations

Romano disclosed that talks between Arsenal and Bologna are ongoing on a daily basis. He mentioned that while personal terms have been agreed upon, there are still unresolved issues that need to be addressed. Romano stated:

“The negotiations between Arsenal and Bologna are currently in progress.Although the two clubs have been in discussions, they have not reached an agreement yet.

However, they are actively negotiating daily to finalize the deal structure, including the fee and other necessary details, as well as the 50% of the deal that goes to Basel.

“There are certain points that need to be clarified between the clubs, but there is a player agreement for a five-year contract until 2029, with a net salary of €4 million (£3.4 million) per season.”

Calafiori may not be utilized as a centre-back for Arsenal.

Calafiori’s primary position is centre-back, making it challenging for him to displace William Saliba and Gabriel from the heart of the defense if that is where Mikel Arteta has positioned him.

The defensive duo formed the most solid defense in the Premier League last season, conceding only 29 goals throughout the league campaign.

With Saliba still developing as a young centre-back and Gabriel a few years away from his peak, it would not be the most prudent decision to separate them.

Instead, Calafiori could potentially fill the left-back position while also providing valuable backup for the centre-back duo.

Oleksandr Zinchenko did not perform at his best for Arsenal last season, and with Kieran Tierney and Jakub Kiwior likely to depart in the summer, Calafiori’s arrival would be highly anticipated at the Emirates Stadium.

His ability to play in the inverted full-back role that Arteta favors could make him a valuable asset to the team.
