Exclusive: Liverpool preparing a £51m offer for a game-changer that Slot appears assured of acquiring.

The club is allegedly taking steps to enhance their strong Dutch presence at Anfield.

The Netherlands trio of Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo played pivotal roles in the Reds’ Premier League championship victory this season, with their success orchestrated by Dutch manager Arne Slot.

Liverpool is reportedly preparing a £51 million bid for Xavi Simons, a player who could significantly impact the team.

The club aims to enhance its already strong Dutch presence at Anfield, which includes key players like Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo, all instrumental in their recent Premier League success under Dutch manager Arne Slot.

Slot appears eager to make his first signing from the Netherlands since taking over.

Sources indicate that Liverpool plans to make an initial offer of around €60 million (£51.1 million) for Simons, hoping that his connections with his international teammates will encourage him to join the Premier League champions.

However, RB Leipzig may demand a higher price, potentially between €70 million and €80 million (£59.6 million to £68.1 million), which could complicate the deal.

Liverpool scouts were present during RB Leipzig’s recent match against Bayern Munich, where Simons showcased his talent with an impressive assist for a goal by another player linked to Liverpool, Benjamin Sesko.

The Dutch player was rated as the top performer on his team according to Sofascore, finishing the match with two assists, five successful duels, one shot on target, two key passes, and two significant chances created.

His former manager, Marco Rose, recognized him as a ‘difference-maker’ for the team. Despite the impressive performance of the 22-year-old against the likely Bundesliga champions, the Red Bull-owned team faces a serious risk of missing out on Champions League qualification for the next season.

With only two matches left in the current season, they could find themselves four points behind the top four if Freiburg wins against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

Should RB Leipzig fail to secure a place in Europe’s elite competition for the 2025/26 season, they might have to reduce their asking price for Simons, especially if he seeks a move to a club like Liverpool that could fulfill his ambitions.

Fabrizio Romano has already suggested that a summer transfer for the Dutchman is a ‘real possibility.’ Could the Netherlands international be the prolific number 10 that Jamie Carragher has called for at Anfield? With a tally of 10 goals and eight assists this season, it may not indicate that he would be a transformative player for the Reds in that role, but it appears that the Anfield management is willing to explore options with Zsolt Lőw’s team.
