‘Deal confirmed’ – Fabrizio Romano announces Newcastle United’s official decision on Sandro Tonali’s transfer as Spurs make an £80m bid.

‘Confirmation received’ – Fabrizio Romano announces Newcastle United’s new agreement.

Newcastle United transfer news: Tottenham Hotspur has officially approached Newcastle regarding Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle United has reportedly declined an official bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Sandro Tonali.

The proposal is valued at approximately £80 million, which is about £30 million more than what Newcastle paid AC Milan for the midfielder in 2023.

Spurs have intensified their pursuit of the 26-year-old over the past week and have now made a formal offer to secure his services, aiming to outpace Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for his signature.

Newcastle United has turned down Spurs’ offer – official discussions are in progress.

Tonali is reportedly open to leaving Newcastle this summer after the team failed to qualify for European football last season. However, Spurs’ interest comes after consecutive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League.

Newcastle is believed to be willing to sell Tonali this summer but will require a substantial fee for the Italian international. This position is supported by various reports regarding Tottenham’s rejected bid.

Formal communication has now occurred between the two clubs after Spurs learned of Tonali’s interest in joining and working under fellow Italian Roberto De Zerbi.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that Spurs’ rejected offer was ‘part of the strategy’ and that official talks are now in progress.

He tweeted: “THFC is determined to finalize the deal. Spurs are continuing to push. De Zerbi wants him.”

Another significant exit at NUFC?

Newcastle has already confirmed one major departure this summer, with Anthony Gordon moving to Barcelona for £70 million.

Now, the focus shifts to Tonali as Newcastle continues to recover from the unsuccessful attempt to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna. The Magpies had an agreement in place for the winger, only for him to choose Liverpool instead.

Beppe Riso, Tonali’s agent, has publicly indicated that a summer transfer for his client is probable. According to a report from the Gazette in March, Tonali’s representatives believe there is a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave if Newcastle fails to secure European football.

The situation will hinge on the price and whether Spurs or any other interested party is prepared to make an offer that Newcastle would take seriously. After turning down an initial bid of approximately £80 million, Newcastle would require an offer closer to £100 million to give it serious consideration.

If this scenario unfolds, the club would have sold Alexander Isak, Gordon, and Tonali within a year for a total of around £300 million. The main concern remains how that revenue will be reinvested.
