Arsenal is making strides in a £60m deal for an ‘extraordinary’ player who ‘dribbles like Ryan Giggs’.

The club has intensified their interest in one of Europe’s top talents, with reports indicating that Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are in consensus.

After a season without trophies, where Arsenal fell short of winning the Premier League and were unable to challenge Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, the north London team is eager to improve their squad’s quality.

With Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea poised to strengthen this summer, Arsenal recognizes the necessity to bolster their lineup.

The primary focus for Arsenal is to acquire a high-caliber striker. Although Kai Havertz is not a traditional number nine, Gabriel Jesus has not been particularly prolific.

Several forwards have been associated with Arsenal, including Victor Osimhen, Ollie Watkins, and Viktor Gyokeres.

According to reports, Arsenal has zeroed in on Benjamin Sesko, indicating that the club is in discussions to sign the RB Leipzig and Slovenia international striker.

TBR has disclosed that Arsenal has ‘opened talks’ to secure Sesko and is ‘working to finalize a deal’.

The report states that the transfer fee will be below his official release clause, with Arsenal hoping to settle around £60million, although it may be closer to £70million.

The report further mentions that manager Arteta and Sporting Director Berta have concurred that Sesko is now ‘their primary target’ ahead of Sporting CP striker Gyokeres.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Arsenal has intensified their efforts to sign Sesko.

Romano shared on X: “Understand Arsenal are now advancing in negotiations for Benjamin Šeško after initial concrete talks reported last week.

Discussions are ongoing and progressing positively among all parties involved, including the player and clubs. No agreement is in place yet, nor is one expected this weekend; however, progress is being made.

Sesko is regarded as one of the top young strikers in Europe, having netted 21 goals and provided six assists in 45 matches for Leipzig last season.

The 22-year-old striker from Slovenia is highly esteemed, with former Chelsea forward and talkSPORT analyst Tony Cascarino stating in June 2024: “He stands at 6ft 4in, 6ft 5in.

“He is a large individual, strong as well, and possesses dribbling skills. For someone of his height, he maneuvers the ball exceptionally well.

“He is often compared to Haaland, but if you observe his playing style, he dribbles like Ryan Giggs.”

“He aggressively takes on defenders and can easily maneuver around them. That’s the remarkable ability he possesses. I have not witnessed a player of 6ft 5in perform like him.

“I have seen him play in wide areas. He does not conform to the traditional No.9 role, but he can definitely drop deep, retrieve the ball, and bypass opponents.”

Arsenal’s position on Viktor Gyokeres – report

While Arsenal has identified Sesko as their primary target and believes a deal is feasible, the north London club is not solely focused on this option.

As reported by TBR, Arsenal may still pursue Sporting CP striker Gyokeres.

Gyokeres had an impressive season, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists in 52 matches for Sporting.

TBR has indicated that if Arsenal is unable to finalize a deal for Sesko, they ‘could still pursue Gyokeres’.

Liverpool and Manchester United are also interested in acquiring Gyokeres during the summer transfer window.
