Arsenal is in the final stages of negotiations to sign a World Cup star, with the deal nearly finalized, according to a journalist.

This summer, Arsenal found themselves in a position that every competitor envied.

Mikel Arteta successfully secured the Premier League title, ending a 22-year drought, yet the reaction has not been one of simply admiring the trophy cabinet.

The champions have continued to bolster their squad.

Illan Meslier was brought in to enhance competition and depth in goal, while Christos Tzolis provided Arteta with another swift, direct option across the attacking front.

Piero Hincapie’s transfer was also made permanent after his loan period. The Ecuadorian international is already familiar with Arsenal’s expectations and can play in central defense or on the left flank.

However, the standout signing was Bruno Guimarães.

Arsenal invested £75 million to acquire the midfielder from Newcastle, adding another established Premier League talent to a midfield that already includes Declan Rice, Martín Zubimendi, Martin Ødegaard, and Eberechi Eze.

This signing is aimed at the immediate future.

At 28, Guimarães is seasoned and prepared to contribute right away as Arsenal strives to defend their title and advance further after their defeat in the Champions League final against PSG.

There has also been activity in the opposite direction.

Christian Norgaard has moved to Everton after slipping down the midfield hierarchy, while Jakub Kiwior has finalized a permanent transfer to Porto. More exits may be on the horizon, with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ethan Nwaneri drawing interest.

Arteta has already indicated that more transactions are anticipated. Another forward is under consideration, but the more pressing concern has arisen in defense.

William Saliba is recuperating from a back injury sustained during the World Cup, while Jurrien Timber is still not fit to return from his groin issue.

These injuries leave Arsenal lacking in experienced defensive options at the start of a season where there will be little room for mistakes.

This situation has brought an experienced Premier League defender into the spotlight of the latest transfer narrative.

Arsenal is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations with Aston Villa regarding a transfer for Ezri Konsa.

As per Football Insider, the deal is said to be ’99 per cent’ finalized, with the total package estimated to be between £60 million and £65 million.

Konsa has allegedly expressed his desire to join Arsenal as well.

The England international, who played a key role for Thomas Tuchel’s team during the World Cup, is familiar with playing from the back under Unai Emery. His addition could impact Ben White, who has fallen behind Timber and has faced two seasons marred by injuries.

Nevertheless, Arsenal fans should remain cautious.

Other credible sources indicate that Villa is steadfast on their asking price, and Arsenal has also initiated talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding Jarell Quansah as an alternative.

Until an official announcement is made, Konsa’s transfer should not be considered a certainty just yet.
