Discussions are underway regarding Newcastle’s pursuit of a “special” player that Matthias Jaissle admires amidst the turmoil surrounding Bruno.

Newcastle United is poised to appoint Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, and the German tactician is already eager to recruit a player he greatly admires.

The player in question is Anis Hadj-Moussa, a winger from Feyenoord, with negotiations reportedly in progress for a transfer to St James’ Park.

The Magpies have experienced significant changes in recent weeks. Following Eddie Howe’s unexpected resignation, Newcastle swiftly identified Jaissle as their top choice for the managerial position, with the former Al-Ahli coach on the brink of taking the helm.

At 38, Jaissle arrives with an impressive reputation after his successful stint in Saudi Arabia and is anticipated to lead further recruitment efforts before the transfer deadline.

To date, Newcastle has bolstered their squad with the signings of promising winger Bazoumana Toure, the highly-rated midfield pair Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, and goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, while a deal for first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek is also nearing completion.

Reports from Sport Witness indicate that Newcastle is currently in discussions for Algeria international Hadj-Moussa, with Feyenoord setting his price at approximately €37 million (£31m).

Earlier this summer, Sunderland made an inquiry for Hadj-Moussa, but now Newcastle is pursuing the forward, with Jaissle being a notable admirer of the player, as reported by journalist Dennis Kranenburg.

The incoming Newcastle manager had intended to sign Moussa during his tenure at Al-Ahli, but the transfer did not come to fruition, and that admiration has now transitioned to St James’ Park.

The statistics speak volumes. Hadj-Moussa had a remarkable 2025/26 season with Feyenoord, netting 14 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.

During his two seasons with the Dutch club, he has made a significant impact by scoring 25 goals and providing 12 assists in 83 matches. This performance led Robin van Persie to label him as a “special guy” and an “important player”.

Hadj-Moussa has previously expressed a preference for moving to England if he were to depart from Feyenoord, suggesting that the opportunity for Jaissle to secure his services may be favorable.

Newcastle should act promptly to support their new manager, and if an agreement can be reached for a fee exceeding £30 million, Hadj-Moussa could emerge as the first major outfield acquisition of the Jaissle era.
