Heartbreaking news has been announced about Curtis Jones – Arne Slot issues Curtis Jones injury update after half-time withdrawal…
‘I would be surprised…’ – Arne Slot provides an update on Curtis Jones following his half-time exit.
Arne Slot has shared news regarding Curtis Jones after the midfielder left the field at half-time due to a suspected injury during Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.
Just prior to the break, the 25-year-old fell to the ground and needed treatment for what appeared to be a groin issue, leading to his substitution for Ryan Gravenberch.
The Reds’ number 17 may now be racing against the clock to recover in time for the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
His head coach did not convey an overly optimistic outlook when discussing the setback following today’s win.
What did Slot say regarding Jones’ injury?
In an interview with Sky Sports after the triumph at Anfield, Slot commented on Jones’ injury: “He felt a bit of discomfort in his groin. It wasn’t immediate; he had been feeling it for a few minutes. Let’s hope for the best, but I would be surprised if a player who comes off is available for Tuesday.
“Welcome to our season. Every time we achieve a win or something positive occurs, there seems to be an injury that follows, but it’s a victory, and that’s what we should truly celebrate.”
Jones’ injury comes at a particularly inconvenient time for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s injury concerns had been easing in recent weeks, with Alexander Isak’s return from a broken leg offering a significant boost. However, Jones’ injury has emerged at a critical moment ahead of a crucial week with matches against PSG and Everton.
Slot has not entirely dismissed the possibility of the 25-year-old playing on Tuesday night, but his remarks after the match suggest that the Champions League encounter may be too soon for the midfielder.
Our number 17 had performed admirably against Fulham before his early exit, achieving a 97% pass completion rate (37/38) and making one successful tackle, in addition to connecting with both long balls he attempted (Sofascore).
The full extent of Jones’ injury should become clearer over the next couple of days, but let’s hope that it isn’t a severe body blow, with Liverpool needing as full a squad as possible with so much riding on every fixture until the end of the season as they pursue a top-five finish.
