‘Positive news’ – James Pearce will delight Liverpool fans with big update ahead of Spurs clash…
‘Positive news’ – James Pearce is set to bring joy to Liverpool supporters with a significant update ahead of the match against Spurs.
In the lead-up to their Premier League encounter with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, James Pearce has shared some very encouraging news for Liverpool fans.
The joy of a hard-fought victory over Brighton last weekend was somewhat diminished by the sight of Dominik Szoboszlai leaving the field due to an ankle injury in the last fifteen minutes of the game, following a heavy fall while trying to avoid a slide tackle from Kaoru Mitoma.
Earlier this week, there were positive updates from Hungary, as initial scans on the 25-year-old showed no serious issues, making the prospects for the upcoming match in north London even more promising.
James Pearce offers injury updates on Liverpool’s trio.
On Wednesday afternoon, The Athletic reported that Liverpool’s number 8 is optimistic about being fit to play against Spurs, having responded positively to treatment since last Saturday. Pearce shared a link to the article via X, labeling it as ‘positive news’.
The LFC medical team will keep a close watch on him before making a decision on Friday regarding his availability to face Thomas Frank’s team. If this match comes too soon for him, he is almost certain to return for Wolves’ visit to Anfield two days after Christmas.
In other news, Joe Gomez is expected to miss Saturday’s match due to a hamstring injury, but the injury is believed to be ‘relatively minor’. Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong is nearing a return to full team training after being out for the last two months.
Having Szoboszlai cleared to play would be a significant boost for Liverpool.
While there is no certainty that Szoboszlai will be deemed fit for the Spurs match, Pearce’s update indicates a strong possibility that the Hungarian will receive the green light.
His presence on Saturday may be increasingly crucial with Mo Salah away for the Africa Cup of Nations, and both Gomez and Frimpong likely unavailable (which raises the chance that our number 8 might need to fill in at right-back, although Conor Bradley has returned from his suspension).
On this subject, there’s a chance that Liverpool could soon be without the 25-year-old for an upcoming match, as he is currently just one yellow card shy of the five-card threshold that would lead to a suspension.
However, if Szoboszlai manages to navigate our next three Premier League matches without receiving a booking, the requirement for a one-match ban will then increase to 10 yellow cards throughout the season. This means that if he receives his fifth yellow card during the Fulham game on January 4, he will not face suspension for the match against Arsenal four days later.
In the short term, let’s hope he is fit to play against Spurs on Saturday and can replicate his scoring performance from the same fixture nearly a year ago, when we triumphed 6-3 in north London.
