Ian Wright has highlighted three key signings that Arsenal should prioritize this summer.
According to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Mikel Arteta must focus on bolstering the squad in the right-wing position, at centre-back, and in midfield during the upcoming transfer window.
Despite a commendable season, Arsenal fell short of winning any trophies, finishing as runners-up in the Premier League, exiting the Champions League in the quarter-finals, and missing out on domestic cup success.
Wright believes that Arteta’s starting XI is strong, but emphasizes the need for additional quality in the squad to provide depth, rotation options, and cover for potential injuries.
While Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have excelled for Arsenal, Wright suggests that the club should secure better backup options for them. Additionally, he advocates for a new signing in central midfield to strengthen the team further.
Wright emphasized the importance of having cover for key players like Saka and Saliba, as well as adding another midfielder to the squad.
He highlighted the need for competition within the team, pointing out Manchester City’s ability to bring in quality players. Strengthening the squad overall, including the bench, was a key focus for Wright.
The topic of conversation often revolves around a striker, but we have proven that despite the challenges, we can manage without a traditional center forward.
In my opinion, it is crucial to have additional players to provide support for both Bukayo Saka and William Saliba. Furthermore, we could benefit from another midfielder.
If we observe Manchester City’s ability to acquire new players, it becomes evident that we should also consider bringing in reinforcements.
It is essential to have someone who can eventually compete with William Saliba for his position, as we need to enhance the overall strength of our squad. Just take a look at our bench to understand the importance of this.
Jamie Carragher has a different perspective from Wright regarding Arsenal’s summer plans. Instead of focusing on adding quality to the bench, Carragher believes that the Gunners should prioritize improving their starting XI.
He suggests that Arsenal should invest in a left-back and strengthen their left wing to enhance their performance both domestically and in Europe.
According to the Liverpool legend, it is crucial to have strong players in the first XI, as they will set the standard for the rest of the squad.
Carragher emphasizes that Arsenal should not just seek cover for specific positions, but rather aim to acquire a top-quality left-back.
Additionally, he believes that the left wing is also in need of improvement, despite acknowledging the potential of players like Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
In Carragher’s opinion, Arsenal lacks a top-class attacker to complement the talents of Bukayo Saka, whom he regards as fantastic. He suggests that the Gunners should pursue another attacking player, preferably a left-winger, who can elevate the team to a higher level.
This addition does not necessarily have to be a central striker, but someone who can make a significant impact from the left flank.
