Mohamed Salah defended by team-mate after bombshell Liverpool interview – ‘That’s just disrespectful’…
Mohamed Salah has received backing from a team-mate following his explosive interview with Liverpool – ‘That’s simply disrespectful’.
An international team-mate from Egypt has come forward to support Mohamed Salah after his shocking interview with Liverpool.
The Egyptian forward spoke with journalists, including Paul Gorst from the ECHO, after the 3-3 draw against Leeds United.
In remarkable statements, Salah expressed that he felt he was “being thrown under the bus” by Liverpool and that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had completely deteriorated.
This situation arose after Salah remained an unused substitute as the defending Premier League champions faced ongoing struggles, having squandered 2-0 and 3-2 leads at Elland Road.
Salah played a crucial role in Liverpool’s 20th top-flight title victory last season, which marked Slot’s first season in charge after succeeding Jurgen Klopp. He concluded the season by securing the Premier League Player of the Season award, the Golden Boot for the most goals, and the Playmaker award for the most assists.
This achievement made Salah the first player in Premier League history to win all three accolades in a single season. However, similar to many of his teammates, his performance has declined in the current season.
He has scored only five goals in 19 matches across all competitions, which has resulted in Slot benching the third highest goalscorer in the history of the Reds for the last three games.
This decision has evidently frustrated Salah, who remarked in the explosive interview: “I couldn’t believe I was on the bench for 90 minutes. This is the third time. It’s the first time in my career, I think.
“I am extremely disappointed; I have contributed so much to this club over the years, particularly last season. It feels as though the club has thrown me under the bus.
“That’s my sentiment. It seems someone wants me to bear all the blame. The club made me many promises during the summer. Now, I find myself on the bench, which indicates they have not fulfilled those promises.
I once had a strong relationship with Slot. Now, however, we no longer have any connection, and I am unsure why. It appears that someone does not want me in the club.
Salah’s choice to express his feelings publicly, especially during a challenging time for the team and manager, has faced criticism. The recent draw with Leeds, who equalized in the 96th minute, means Liverpool has only secured four victories in their last 15 matches across all competitions as they head into Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter.
An Egyptian colleague of Salah has stated that his international teammate has been “disrespected” by Liverpool and that he deserves to be in a “different category,” akin to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Ahmed Hassan, a 32-year-old striker currently playing for Al-Ettifaq, previously managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, shared with his 1.6 million followers on X: “As footballers, when we find ourselves on the bench, we feel it deeply—sadness, frustration, and even a touch of depression.
“Yet, we anticipate that moment when we can step onto the field, make an impact, and demonstrate to the coach why we deserve a starting position. This is the reality for most of us.
“However, Mo Salah is not like most of us. He belongs in a different category, similar to Cristiano and Messi. Players of that caliber do not sit on the bench.
“And if, for any reason, they do start on the bench, it is essential to ensure they are the first to come on, ideally around the 60 or 65-minute mark… not left sitting without any playtime. That is simply disrespectful to all he has accomplished for the club.
“Mo is not merely a teammate; he is a brother, a leader, and a legend for both club and country. Remember, every situation in life is temporary. Moments like this will pass. What endures is your greatness and how you respond.”
The Egypt national team has come together in support of Salah, who returned to the Reds’ AXA Training Centre on Sunday.
He will join the Pharaohs squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, December 15, just 48 hours after Liverpool hosts Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield in the Premier League.
Salah, who is currently being associated with a transfer to the Saudi Pro League in January, suggested that the match against the Seagulls might be his last for the club when he stated on Saturday night: “I called my mum and dad and asked them to come to the Brighton game.
“It doesn’t matter if I play or not. I’m going to enjoy it. I will simply be at Anfield to bid farewell to the fans before the African Cup of Nations, as I am uncertain about what will happen while I am there.”
Before that, there is a trip to Italy to face Inter tomorrow (Tuesday). Slot and the Liverpool management must now determine whether to include Salah in the traveling squad for the Champions League match.
The Reds will hold an open training session at 11.45am today (Monday). Following that, they will depart for Italy, where Slot and a member of his team will address the media at a press conference at 6.45pm.
