Luis Enrique has clearly stated his feelings regarding Liverpool after being identified as the ‘No.1 Target’.

Enrique is being considered for the Liverpool position should Arne Slot be dismissed.

Luis Enrique has openly shared his sentiments about Liverpool amidst speculation that he is the primary candidate to take over as their new manager if Arne Slot is let go.

Liverpool has now suffered nine losses in their last 12 matches across all competitions following Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League.

They have dropped out of the top half of the Premier League standings and currently trail their Merseyside rivals Everton, who secured a 1-0 victory against Manchester United on Monday.

The upcoming eight days could be crucial for Slot, as Liverpool faces away games against struggling West Ham and Leeds, and will host Sunderland at Anfield on December 2.

Reds legend Jamie Carragher has asserted that the Dutchman has these three matches to ‘save his job’, stating in The Telegraph that failing to secure at least seven points would render his position ‘untenable’.

Historically, Liverpool does not dismiss managers mid-season, with Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers being the only exceptions in the past century.

If Slot were to join that brief list, The Sun reports that the Reds would first reach out to Jurgen Klopp about taking over on an interim basis until the season concludes.

Their long-term objective, it is said, is PSG manager Enrique, who led the French club to their first Champions League title last season.

The Spaniard has consistently expressed his desire to manage in English football, telling FourFourTwo as early as 2013: “I would like to manage in England at some point. My wife wouldn’t appreciate the weather – she’s from Barcelona and enjoys the sun.

“It would depend on the team and the style of football they play.”

In the same interview, Enrique disclosed that he had analyzed Liverpool’s style of play under Brendan Rodgers during his inaugural season: “I appreciate how Brendan Rodgers interprets the game and how he unites the team, although I recognize it has been challenging for him in his first year at Liverpool.”

However, perhaps more relevant to his current circumstances are remarks made in March 2025 concerning Liverpool.

PSG faced the Reds in the Round of 16 of last season’s Champions League, overcoming them in a penalty shootout after two matches.

They secured a 2-1 victory at Anfield, equalizing the aggregate score to 2-2, with Enrique commenting prior to the match: “Liverpool is among the top teams in Europe in recent years.

“We are about to compete against the team that has performed the best in the Champions League this season. They have recently won the Champions League.

“Following the Jurgen Klopp era, it might have been tough for Arne Slot to achieve better results, but he has successfully built a well-rounded team that excels in pressing, defending, and attacking.

“They are adept at orchestrating both calculated attacks and counter-attacks. They are a very well-rounded team.
