Fabrizio Romano reveals two potential early signings that Arne Slot is looking to secure at Liverpool…
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arne Slot is eyeing two early signings for Liverpool.
The focus this summer will be on bringing in a new centre-back and forward, with reports indicating that the Reds were in search of a midfielder previously.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool’s focus this summer will be on signing a new centre-back and forward, contrary to previous reports suggesting they were in search of a midfielder.
Arne Slot, the new manager, is keen on bringing in a new attacker, which has raised questions about Darwin Nunez’s future at Anfield. Despite Liverpool’s squad overhaul last summer, with a brand-new midfield, Romano suggests that their transfer priorities lie elsewhere this time.
It is possible that Slot, in his first year at Anfield, will make significant investments, but he may choose to rely on previous signings and leave certain areas untouched.
Jurgen Klopp, the departing manager, had rebuilt the midfield less than a year ago, following the departures of key players such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Liverpool has already spent £146 million on four new signings, namely Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo, which has refreshed their team and positioned them comfortably for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
In his latest update, Romano has indicated that Liverpool’s transfer strategy will involve focusing on specific areas during the upcoming summer transfer window. The club, under Slot, is looking to secure a new centre-back and reinforce their offensive positions. These are the key areas to keep an eye on, rather than expecting a major midfield signing.
Liverpool faces the potential departure of two experienced centre-backs, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, who may seek new challenges elsewhere.
With Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Jarell Quansah already in the squad, the addition of a fourth centre-back is crucial. Romano has identified Goncalo Inacio as a potential target for the Reds, given his impressive performances for Sporting Lisbon.
Inacio, 22, has attracted interest from various top European clubs and has a £52 million release clause. Competition for his signature is expected this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United reportedly in the mix.
Liverpool has been monitoring the Portuguese defender for quite some time and had shown interest in signing him last year. However, the club opted to strengthen their midfield instead.
Inacio’s arrival could intensify the competition for the starting center-back position next to van Dijk and potentially replace the Dutch player, who will be turning 33 in July.
Is Nunez on his way out of Liverpool? The club is also exploring options in the forward market, according to Romano.
Scoring has been a concern for certain forwards at the club this season, particularly Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan striker has managed to score only 11 goals in the Premier League this season, with an average of one goal every 183 minutes.
