The player referred to as the ‘ultimate professional’ has allegedly committed to joining Liverpool, as rumors regarding Real Madrid have been dismissed.

One individual recognized as the ‘ultimate professional’ has reportedly pledged to sign with Liverpool, while speculation about interest from Real Madrid has been put to rest.

During a lavish summer transfer window on Merseyside, there was still a notable ‘missed opportunity’ as Marc Guehi’s anticipated move from Crystal Palace fell through at the last moment on deadline day.

The Eagles’ defender is now in the final eight months of his contract at Selhurst Park, and discussions about his future have persisted throughout the autumn, with Oliver Glasner openly stating that the 25-year-old ‘will depart next year’.

Guehi has ‘promised’ to join Liverpool.

In his recent Liverpool Confidential update for Mail Sport, Lewis Steele discussed the current situation regarding the England international.

He noted: ‘Reds target Marc Guehi – the Crystal Palace captain who was close to becoming a Liverpool player on deadline day – has been associated with Real Madrid for a free transfer next summer. The Spanish club has downplayed those claims.

‘Guehi is still on Liverpool’s radar for a future acquisition – we have already discussed whether that should occur in January or the summer – and sources in Madrid believe he has committed to joining the Premier League champions.’

Could Guehi finally make the move to Liverpool in 2026?

LFC supporters might view any news regarding the Palace captain with skepticism following the abrupt failure of his deadline day transfer to Anfield, yet it seems his interest in such a transfer remains intact.

Last month, Dean Jones reported (via TEAMtalk) that Guehi ‘is still keen’ on playing for the Reds, and that appears to hold true if he has ‘given his word’ to join Arne Slot’s team in 2026.

Despite the defender’s apparent commitment, Liverpool must remain cautious of potential interest from foreign clubs that could sign him on a free transfer.

Nonetheless, with Alan Shearer describing the 25-year-old as the ‘ultimate professional’ for not trying to force a departure from Palace during the summer, it appears that the Eagles captain is a person of integrity, unwilling to go back on what seems to be a verbal agreement.

Doubt will understandably persist until Guehi is seen at Anfield signing a contract in LFC colors, but if the information from Spain holds true, there appears to be a realistic opportunity for him to finally secure his long-desired transfer to Merseyside in the near future.
