MOMENT Florian Wirtz is FURIOUS with Mohamed Salah after he refused to pass in front of Frankfurt’s open goal.

Mo Salah leaves Florian Wirtz enraged with his actions during Liverpool’s victory against Frankfurt.

Liverpool supporters are upset with ‘selfish’ Mo Salah for opting to shoot instead of allowing £116m Florian Wirtz to score the first goal in the 5-1 rout of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Liverpool dominated Frankfurt on Wednesday night, but Florian Wirtz was left angry with his teammate Mo Salah after he declined to pass him the ball when a goal was within reach.

Mo Salah did not square the ball to Florian Wirtz, who was in a prime position to score against Frankfurt, as the German continues his goalless start at Liverpool.

The £116 million summer acquisition returned to his home country as the Reds secured a decisive victory in the Champions League.

Arne Slot made changes and initially kept Salah on the bench, later bringing him on as a substitute in the second half.

Wirtz started the match and contributed to Liverpool’s commanding lead. Salah was eager to make an impression upon entering the game and found himself in a scoring position down the right side, preparing for a shot.

He could have easily passed to Wirtz, who was only eight yards away, but the Egyptian opted to take the shot himself.

Following Michael Zetterer’s save, Wirtz displayed his frustration by throwing his arms up in exasperation at his teammate.

Both Salah and Wirtz have their own reasons to score as pressure builds on both players.

The German was the British-record signing upon his arrival at Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen, yet he has not registered a goal or an assist since his debut until Wednesday night.

On the other hand, Salah has appeared to be a mere shadow of the prolific player he was last season. Now at 33 and having recently signed a new contract, the forward must demonstrate that he can maintain his performance at the highest level.

He has only netted three times across all competitions and has not scored since mid-September.

No longer a guaranteed starter, the Egyptian was evidently eager to make an impact and break his goal drought, but he was unable to do so.

Questions are being raised about Wirtz due to his lack of influence in the final third, although his two assists against Frankfurt will help ease the concerns.

Florian Wirtz’s reaction

️ “It was disappointing he didn’t pass; there was a similar situation over the weekend. I hope we can develop a better understanding on the pitch.”

After the match, he was questioned and told DAZN: “I’ve never done an interview so soon after a match. If I remember correctly, we were down 1-0.

We managed to come back and turn the game around. In the first half, I made it difficult for myself to find good spaces.

“Then I was unfortunate to lose the ball before we conceded, but overall it was okay. I aimed to position myself better during the second half. I know I can contribute much more.

I believe the second half was really good, as was everyone else’s performance. So I’m pleased that we won today and that I finally have a goal involvement.
