Arsenal vs Luton Town match preview: Forecast, team updates & starting lineups

A midweek schedule of Premier League matches includes Arsenal facing Luton Town on Wednesday evening.

After losing their top spot in the table on Sunday, the Gunners received praise for their performance against Manchester City. Mikel Arteta’s team implemented a strategic plan to counter Pep Guardiola’s side, resulting in a well-earned draw.

The draw in Manchester could be significant in the long run, even if Arsenal is no longer in contention for the title.

A victory on Wednesday would see them back at the top, with Liverpool playing the next day. However, Luton Town is not expected to be an easy opponent. Despite showing promise against top teams this season, they have yet to secure a major win. In the previous encounter, Arsenal narrowly won with a stoppage-time goal from Declan Rice.

Although Luton Town is battling relegation, they may not view this match as a must-win. With several players sidelined due to injuries, they have nothing to lose on Wednesday night.

Mikel Arteta provided an update on Bukayo Saka’s condition prior to Arsenal’s upcoming match against Luton Town following his early exit against Manchester City.

Saka, who was initially uncertain for the City match due to his withdrawal from England duty, had to be replaced in the 78th minute of the goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium. The English player appeared to be in discomfort as Gabriel Martinelli took his place towards the end of the game.

Despite concerns about a potential injury, Arteta has reassured that Saka is “fine” and ready for selection in the upcoming clash with Luton Town on Wednesday evening.

“We haven’t had a full training session, just recovery,” Arteta informed the press. “We had a brief, light training session today to prepare for the match, and we will assess if he is fit enough to start or not.”

Saka’s performance against City was below par, with only 11 completed passes and no successful dribbles against defenders. However, Arteta remains positive about his contribution in the upcoming match against Luton, as Arsenal strives to maintain their title pursuit.

When questioned about Saka’s ability to play the entire 90 minutes, Arteta confidently stated, “He certainly is today. We will assess the condition of each player during today’s training session and make the appropriate decision tomorrow.”

This update from Arteta brings a sense of relief to Arsenal fans, as Saka’s availability adds depth to the team ahead of a crucial fixture. The manager hopes that his influential forward overcomes any discomfort and regains his scoring prowess, especially with a demanding schedule ahead.

The Gunners will face Brighton on Saturday before hosting Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on April 9.
