‘Could be six-plus weeks’ – injury analyst provides a worrying update on Liverpool midfielder
Liverpool’s injury issues are escalating, with new assessments indicating that Ryan Gravenberch may be sidelined for over six weeks due to the ankle injury he incurred during our loss to Manchester United.
Gravenberch injury update from football analyst
The Dutch midfielder was taken off shortly after the hour mark at Anfield after seemingly twisting his ankle in Sunday’s 2–0 defeat. Although Arne Slot initially downplayed concerns, new information from Physio Scout on X has heightened worries about the actual severity of the injury.
The injury expert stated: “Ryan Gravenberch was substituted in the second half of Liverpool’s match against Manchester United after appearing to twist his ankle.
“The mechanism – inversion and plantarflexion at the ankle – raises concern for a lateral ankle sprain. These typically involve the ATFL and, in some cases, the CFL too.”
The analysis further detailed possible recovery timelines based on the injury’s severity:
Injury Grade Estimated Recovery
Grade 1 0.5–2 weeks
Grade 2 3–4 weeks
Grade 3 4–6+ weeks
“Liverpool is set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League midweek and will be racing against the clock to prepare.
“However, any confirmed ligament damage from imaging could result in him being out for several weeks.”
This timeline could mean our No.38 misses vital Premier League matches against Brentford, Aston Villa, and Manchester City, as well as a clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Liverpool’s midfield is once again stretched during a critical period
With a pre-match injury update needed as well, the former Bayern Munich player has been facing challenges recently.
It’s another setback for Slot, who had already acknowledged post-match that he substituted Gravenberch due to a twisted ankle and would “have to wait and see” the results of the scans.
Gravenberch had been one of our standout players during an otherwise dismal Sunday afternoon, winning five duels and making three tackles before exiting the field.
His capacity to advance the ball and facilitate play has been a crucial aspect of our midfield stability this season, and his absence would significantly disrupt our flow.
Liverpool’s midfield options appear robust on paper, with Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister, and Wataru Endo all available, but the Dutchman’s performance since August has arguably made him indispensable.
Slot will be eager to prevent another long-term injury in a season already marred by physical setbacks and fatigue.
The hope is that the swelling and instability are minimal, permitting a swift return; however, as Physio Scout cautions, “any ligament damage confirmed on imaging could prolong the absence.”
We can only wish for positive results from the scans ahead of our Champions League match against Frankfurt later this week.
