“We must wait and see” – Arne Slot raises injury concerns following the defeat to Man United

After Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United, manager Arne Slot disclosed a new injury worry as they approach a pivotal phase in their season.

During the match at Anfield, midfielder Ryan Gravenberch had to leave the field in the 61st minute due to what Slot described as a twisted ankle, raising questions about his availability for the upcoming European match.

This injury occurs at a critical time for Liverpool, who are facing increasing pressure to regain their form and restore confidence in their title defense.

Gravenberch did not complete the match against Man United.

His exit was one of several alarming indicators for Liverpool, who, despite controlling the game in terms of opportunities, were unable to capitalize on them.

Slot confirmed the issue concerning the Dutch midfielder during his post-match press conference, as reported by Liverpool World:

“I substituted him because he twisted his ankle. Is he an injury concern? We will have to wait and see tomorrow since we have another match in three days.

We are scheduled to play three games in seven days, similar to what we faced after the last international break, and that doesn’t provide much time for recovery for the players.”

Arne Slot is likely hoping the injury is not severe.

The context surrounding the injury is also significant.

Gravenberch had returned from the international break already dealing with a hamstring issue.

In addition to Gravenberch’s situation, the outcome against United highlighted more profound issues regarding Liverpool’s defensive organization and offensive effectiveness, but losing a key midfielder is the last thing Slot needs at this moment.

Given Gravenberch’s importance to the Reds, Slot will be wishing for a favorable prognosis regarding the midfielder’s injury.

The Reds are set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League midweek, and Slot will be eager to prevent a fifth consecutive defeat for his squad.
