Virgil van Dijk delivers a sharp five-word retort to an irate PSG director as new tunnel footage surfaces.
In response to a furious PSG director, Virgil van Dijk issues a blunt five-word statement as new tunnel footage comes to light.
The former Celtic defender responded to Luis Campos during Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win.
Virgil van Dijk confronted a PSG executive with a pointed five-word reply as fresh tunnel footage emerged from Liverpool’s midweek encounter.
The ex-Celtic player was not inclined to engage with sporting director Luis Campos, who pursued referee Davide Massa during halftime of the Ligue 1 champions’ 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the last-16 of the Champions League. The Italian referee had declined to issue a red card or penalty against Reds defender Ibrahima Konate after he seemingly pushed Bradley Barcola.
This incident unfolded in the first half, where PSG could have easily scored multiple goals if not for their poor finishing and Alisson’s outstanding performance in goal. Massa was also not prompted to reassess his initial decision at the VAR monitor.
Footage captured by French sports channel CANAL Plus showed Campos vocally insisting, “it’s a red card or a penalty” as Massa headed back to the locker rooms during the break. Van Dijk coolly responded, “It’s not Ligue 1, bro,” while making his way to the Liverpool dressing area.
The footage from Canal Plus highlights Campos’ halftime outburst regarding the incident involving Ibrahima Konaté and Bradley Barcola.
Virgil Van Dijk’s retort: “It’s not Ligue 1, bro.”
To further complicate matters for PSG, Harvey Elliott came off the bench to score the only goal of the match, giving Liverpool a 1-0 advantage to take back to Anfield for the second leg. PSG manager Luis Enrique expressed his frustration over his players’ inability to finish and promised to make the return match a memorable occasion.
He stated: “It is difficult to view the match positively. We deserved to win. Liverpool’s best player was their goalkeeper. Football can often be unfair.
“We have nothing to lose and are prepared for Liverpool.”
