Man Utd: ‘Desperate’ Ratcliffe is contemplating a surprising hire of Arsenal legend amid concerns over Amorim’s potential resignation.

According to reports, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Man Utd, is considering bringing in Arsenal icon Cesc Fabregas should Ruben Amorim depart.

The Red Devils have carried their disappointing performance from last season into the new one, with Amorim’s team currently sitting 14th in the Premier League standings.

Since joining Man Utd at the start of last season, Amorim has averaged just over a point per game, which could place the Red Devils in danger of relegation if this trend continues.

Rumors suggest that Man Utd has compiled a list of possible replacements in case Amorim is dismissed in the near future.

However, the i Paper reports that Man Utd is ‘concerned’ Amorim might resign before being let go, as he aims to safeguard his reputation, which was quite high prior to his arrival at Old Trafford.

The report further states: ‘Amorim is said to be surprised by the level of scrutiny faced by a United manager and the immediate reactions following each loss.

Despite speculation regarding Amorim’s potential sacking, INEOS is reportedly ‘prepared to be patient with the troubled Portuguese manager, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe described as “desperate” to allow his manager a full season to demonstrate his capabilities.’

The i Paper also mentions that ‘there is a possibility Amorim could leave voluntarily before being forced out’ as the Man Utd manager ‘will soon need to think about how to maintain his long-term reputation.’

In response to these reports, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport: “I’m not aware of anything regarding that.

He’s concentrating on performing his best for Manchester United. We will have to wait for the upcoming matches and see what unfolds.”

Numerous managers have already been linked to the position, including Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, and former England manager Gareth Southgate, all considered as potential successors should Amorim depart.

Currently, FourFourTwo reports that Arsenal icon Fabregas, who also had a stint in the Premier League with Chelsea, is being considered by Man Utd co-owner Ratcliffe.

The article states: ‘FourFourTwo suggests that Fabregas may be included in the list of potential managers that United will evaluate to succeed Amorim, should he be dismissed – however, the ex-playmaker has a complicated history with the 20-time English champions.

‘The former player from Arsenal and Chelsea has asserted that the club attempted to recruit him on two occasions – first as a 15-year-old before his transfer to the Gunners, and again over ten years later when he was departing from Barcelona.’
