Galatasaray vs Liverpool: Update on Champions League match and current scores

The Reds are aiming for a smoother path to victory compared to their previous encounter.

Liverpool is eager to move past their last-minute setback against Crystal Palace as they refocus on the Champions League, where they will take on Galatasaray.

The Reds suffered a defeat due to Eddie Nketiah’s late goal at Selhurst Park over the weekend, marking their first league loss of the season.

Arne Slot’s team remains two points ahead at the top of the standings, having won all five of their other matches in the English Premier League.

In European competition, however, they were pushed to the limit by Atletico Madrid on matchday one, requiring an injury-time header from Virgil van Dijk to secure all three points against the La Liga side.

Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah’s quick double strike within six minutes led many to believe that the Premier League champions would dominate at Anfield, but they were brought back to level terms by Marcos Llorente’s two goals.

That was until van Dijk leapt highest to power a header past Jan Oblak, clinching a thrilling win.

On the other hand, Galatasaray faced a heavy 5-1 defeat in their first Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Consequently, the Super Lig team will aim to leverage their passionate home crowd to create a daunting atmosphere for their Premier League rivals.

Galatasaray vs Liverpool team news

Both teams have no significant injury issues ahead of this matchup.

Liverpool will miss Giovanni Leoni, who was sidelined for a year last week after suffering a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament.

Additionally, Federico Chiesa has been excluded from the traveling squad, with Arne Slot confirming that the Italian is managing a minor injury sustained during the defeat to Palace.

For the home team, star striker Victor Osimhen returned to action in a 1-0 win against Alanyaspor on Friday after recovering from an ankle injury incurred while on international duty with Nigeria.

Gala manager Okan Buruk expressed his desire for Osimhen to “play for 10 minutes” and “experience the pain,” highlighting that “playing through pain is crucial.”

The Turkish club is so eager to have their key player back in form that Buruk has adjusted his formation and attempted to bring Osimhen back ahead of schedule.

“We may have altered our formation and faced challenges in covering the opposition,” he stated. “Nevertheless, we are taking these risks to ensure he participates.”
