Key player returns as Arteta implements two changes | Anticipated Arsenal line-up against PSV Eindhoven

Lewis-Skelly, Ben White: Latest updates on Arsenal’s squad for the match against PSV Eindhoven

With the return of an essential player, Arteta has made two changes to the anticipated Arsenal lineup ahead of the match against PSV Eindhoven.

Arsenal is preparing to face PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 this evening.

The Gunners advanced to this stage by finishing among the top eight in the league phase, while the Dutch team secured their spot by defeating Juventus in the playoff round.

Mikel Arteta’s squad has shown inconsistency in the Premier League, currently holding second place with 54 points from 27 matches, trailing league leaders Liverpool by 13 points.

Having already exited the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, the Champions League represents their sole opportunity to secure silverware this season.

Team updates

The North London club is dealing with several injuries, with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz ruled out for the remainder of the season. Additionally, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are also expected to miss tonight’s match due to their respective injuries.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, who was suspended for the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest last week, is available for selection in this European encounter.

Projected line-up

With Arsenal having a weekend off following their FA Cup exit, they should be well-rested for this match.

David Raya is anticipated to remain in goal, while Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are expected to form the central defensive partnership for the team.

Jurrien Timber is likely to occupy the right-back position, with Lewis-Skelly on the left. Consequently, Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White may find themselves on the bench.

Thomas Partey is expected to take on the defensive midfield role, with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard likely completing the midfield trio for the visitors, leaving Jorginho to start on the bench.

In the absence of Jesus and Havertz, Mikel Merino could take on the role of center forward.

Arteta has limited choices for rotation in the attacking lineup, which suggests that Ethan Nwaneri will likely occupy the right wing, while Leandro Trossard is expected to play on the left.

Consequently, Raheem Sterling may come on as a substitute.

Projected Arsenal lineup against PSV:

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Trossard, Merino, Nwaneri.
