Forget Konate: Arne Slot Needs to Axe ‘Absolutely Lost’ Liverpool Man After Palace Loss
Forget about Konate: Arne Slot should consider removing the ‘Absolutely Lost’ Liverpool player after the defeat to Palace.
Liverpool supporters expressed their discontent on social media regarding midfielder Alexis Mac Allister following the team’s match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
As the defending champions this season, Liverpool entered the game with an unblemished league record, having secured victories in all five of their initial matches, even though they did not seem to be performing at their peak.
In their most recent league encounter at the time of this writing, Liverpool visited Selhurst Park to take on a Crystal Palace team that had remained unbeaten in 17 matches across all competitions, including a Community Shield match against Liverpool.
Liverpool experienced their first points drop of the season, yet they managed to avoid a loss in dramatic fashion when Federico Chiesa, who came on as a substitute, scored in the 87th minute, giving them hope of salvaging a point.
However, Eddie Nketiah had different plans, netting a winning goal in the 97th minute, which resulted in Liverpool suffering their first Premier League defeat of the season in a game where they did not showcase their usual brilliance.
As the match approached its conclusion and the final whistle blew, numerous Liverpool fans shared their thoughts on the performance of one specific midfielder.
‘Mac Allister Appears Completely Lost’
Substitute Mac Allister at halftime. I’m unsure what has changed without a pre-season, but he currently resembles a mere shadow of his former self. Jones contributes significantly more.
On X, previously known as Twitter, several Liverpool fans voiced their opinions on Alexis Mac Allister’s display against Crystal Palace.
Since his transfer from Brighton to Liverpool for £35 million in 2023, the Argentinian has been one of the club’s standout players, yet he struggled considerably against the Eagles, reflecting a challenging start to the season f or the midfielder.
One supporter remarked that Mac Allister seemed “completely lost” against Palace, a trend that has persisted since Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez left the club.
Another fan expressed a preference for Eagles midfielder Adam Wharton to start over Mac Allister for Liverpool “any day of the week.” Additional comments included:
“I’m not sure if it’s merely a fitness issue, but Mac Allister needs to be benched now. He hasn’t performed well all season.”
“[Conor] Bradley and Mac Allister consistently starting despite their poor performances is on [Arne] Slot, unfortunately. [Curtis] Jones and [Jeremie] Frimpong are available.”
The midfielder was not the only one underperforming; defender Ibrahima Konate also appeared to be off his game.
Despite the impressive displays Mac Allister has delivered in a Liverpool jersey, a form he is likely to regain eventually, it was evident that the 26-year-old was not at his peak in South London.
Mac Allister Struggled Against Palace
Mac Allister’s match against Palace lasted just over an hour, as he was substituted for Curtis Jones in the 65th minute.
The former Brighton player failed to register a single shot on target, and while he won all his aerial duels, he lost both of his ground duels, according to SofaScore.
It is difficult to support the notion that Mac Allister, who lost possession seven times against Palace, should remain a starter, especially considering that both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have had outstanding starts to the season and can occupy Mac Allister’s role.
Liverpool boasts such a wealth of talent that they have high-quality alternatives to replace Mac Allister, which, based on his performance at Selhurst Park, may need to occur sooner rather than later.
