BREAKING: Alexander Isak to Liverpool, here we go! Deal agreed now for £130m transfer fee. Record move for Premier League…
Liverpool has reached an agreement for a British record transfer fee of £125m to acquire striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
BREAKING: Alexander Isak is heading to Liverpool, and the deal is confirmed! The transfer fee has been set at £130m, marking a record move in the Premier League.
Isak is en route today for medical examinations as he prepares to join Liverpool, following a long-term agreement established months ago.
The deal is finalized: Liverpool has secured 25-year-old Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for €130m, which includes additional bonuses. This marks a significant transfer window for Arne Slot.
It was always destined to be Liverpool for Isak.
Sources close to the transaction have informed BBC Sport that the arrangement for the Swedish international to join Anfield is now confirmed.
Newcastle’s insiders suggest that the total value of the deal could reach £130m with performance-related add-ons.
Isak is anticipated to complete a medical on Monday before signing a six-year contract.
Liverpool’s initial offer of £110m was turned down in August, but they are now poised to secure their top target of the summer.
The lengthy negotiations surrounding the 25-year-old seem to be concluding on the last day of the summer transfer window, especially after Newcastle signed striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart last week.
This summer, Liverpool has already shattered their club transfer record by acquiring German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz for an initial £100m, plus an additional £16m in bonuses.
Isak’s signing would surpass that expenditure. Following the acquisitions of Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Giovanni Leoni, the club’s total spending would reach approximately £416m, excluding add-ons.
Liverpool may still enhance their squad, as they are pursuing a deal to sign England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
In the meantime, the departures of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton, and Ben Doak have generated an initial revenue of around £190m.
How did the Isak transfer come to fruition?
Isak, who made a £60m switch to Newcastle from La Liga’s Real Sociedad in 2022, netted 27 goals in 42 matches across all competitions last season.
He played a crucial role in helping the Magpies secure the Carabao Cup in March, scoring in the final as Newcastle triumphed over Liverpool. They subsequently qualified for the Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League.
Earlier this summer, Isak was omitted from the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of Asia due to what the club referred to as a “minor thigh injury,” while it was reported that he was interested in seeking a transfer.
He subsequently trained alone at his previous club, Real Sociedad, before Liverpool’s initial offer for him was rejected by the Magpies.
With ongoing rumors regarding his future, Isak issued a statement claiming that promises had been “broken” by Newcastle and that their “relationship cannot continue.”
According to BBC Sport, Isak was under the impression that he would be permitted to leave Newcastle if a major club made a suitable offer.
Newcastle, however, stated that “no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.”
Nonetheless, a transfer has now been finalized after Isak remained sidelined at Newcastle, missing their first three Premier League matches, including a 3-2 loss to Liverpool at St James’ Park.
