Report: Arsenal’s Potential Signing of Brighton Star Could Boost Their European Ambitions

According to recent reports, Arsenal is leading the race to secure the services of the talented Japanese international, leaving behind competition from Manchester United and Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, strongly believes that Mitoma, who has been impressing since joining Brighton’s starting lineup in 2022, could be the key addition to improve Arsenal’s chances of competing against top teams like City and Liverpool.

Despite Gabriel Martinelli’s underwhelming performance this season, he managed to score two Premier League goals before sealing Arsenal’s resounding victory over Crystal Palace with a brace on the counterattack.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arsenal is actively pursuing Mitoma and has emerged as the frontrunner in the transfer race, leaving United and City behind. The North London club has taken notice of the winger’s significant contributions to Brighton.

Mitoma could potentially follow in the footsteps of other Brighton players who have made moves to ‘Big Six’ clubs, such as Ben White and Leandro Trossard who joined Arsenal. However, a transfer during the January window is unlikely as Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi is hesitant to let go of a key player midway through the season.

Brighton’s history indicates that they only sell their best players when the timing and transfer fee align with their demands. With Brighton reportedly seeking at least £70m for Mitoma, negotiations may take place in the summer, and Arsenal seems ready to engage in discussions for the 26-year-old forward.

Arsenal has previously negotiated successfully with Brighton for the signings of Trossard and White. However, they faced more challenges when attempting to secure the services of Moises Caicedo from the South Coast in January 2022.
