Romano has confirmed Liverpool’s ‘dream target’ following Isak, as Rodrygo becomes part of a potential transfer chain.

Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Liverpool has identified a ‘dream target’ should they fail to secure Alexander Isak, with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo involved in a possible transfer chain.

Isak has expressed his desire to leave St James’ Park this summer to the Newcastle management, but the club turned down a £110m offer from Liverpool for his transfer last week.

The Reds have already made significant investments this summer, acquiring notable players such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, bringing their total spending to over £250m.

However, they have also generated approximately £120m from player sales and are poised to enhance their finances further with Darwin Nunez nearing a £46m transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

Reports indicate that they will not raise their offer for Isak, who is currently training alone and has been excluded from Eddie Howe’s family barbecue due to uncertainties surrounding his future.

L’Equipe reported on Wednesday that Liverpool is ‘not giving up on Isak’, but has also ‘considered the name of Bradley Barcola to bolster their attack’, asserting that they are ‘not finished with this ambitious transfer’ after initial links with the French player earlier in the transfer window.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri later stated that Liverpool intends to submit a ‘concrete offer’ for the 22-year-old.

He posted on X: ‘EXCL – Liverpool Football Club is set to move forward with a concrete offer to Paris Saint-Germain! The Reds are highly motivated to turn their interest into a bid during recent discussions.

The deal will not be below €100M. The situation with Isak explains this new strategy for #LFC. Significant impact. More updates to come’.

Now, Romano has confirmed that Barcola is Liverpool’s ‘internal dream target’, but emphasizes that the winger will not join if Newcastle ‘opens the doors’ for Isak’s transfer to Anfield.

He mentioned on his YouTube channel: “It’s not Barcola and Isak. If they can secure him, Liverpool’s main focus tonight continues to be Isak.

Should Newcastle open the doors, Liverpool will pursue Isak. That deal is definitely still in play.

“If the Isak deal falls through, Barcola is regarded as the ideal target within Liverpool.

As of now, Liverpool has not reached out to Barcola’s agents or Paris Saint-Germain, but they might attempt to sign Barcola before the window closes if Newcastle shuts the door on Isak.

“PSG is reluctant to part with Barcola – they have prepared a substantial new contract offer for the end of the window after Bayern Munich expressed interest in the winger back in June.

The only scenario in which Barcola could leave is if he expresses a desire to join Liverpool. It won’t be straightforward, as PSG considers Barcola one of the top players globally.

“If Liverpool decides to pursue Barcola, a name to keep an eye on for PSG would be Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

He is determined to remain and compete for his position at Real Madrid, but internally at PSG, Rodrygo could serve as a potential replacement for Barcola.”
