Report: Arsenal rekindles interest in Serie A winger with 20 goals, club demands £60m

Recent reports indicate that Arsenal is still looking to make additions this month.

The Gunners have allegedly revived their pursuit of Ademola Lookman as they seek experienced reinforcements for their attacking lineup.

According to The Sun, the North London club is once again keeping an eye on the Atalanta winger, who has expressed a desire to leave the Italian club following an impressive season.

Lookman scored 20 goals in Serie A and the Champions League last season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most effective wide players. Despite turning 28 in October, Arsenal is undeterred by his age.

They have already secured a deal for Viktor Gyökeres (27) and continue to show strong interest in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, who is also 27.

With young talents like Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman emerging from Hale End, Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta seem to be prioritizing the acquisition of proven, ready-made attackers to enhance their youthful squad.

Lookman, who can play on the left or in a central role, fits this requirement perfectly.

However, any potential transfer may hinge on player departures. Leandro Trossard, now 30, could be the player sacrificed to create both financial and tactical space for Lookman’s arrival.

Although the Belgian has contributed significantly since his transfer from Brighton, Arsenal’s pursuit of a more dynamic and consistent left-sided option suggests that an upgrade is being seriously contemplated.

Replacing Trossard with Lookman would alleviate concerns regarding Lookman’s age, as he is three years younger.

Additionally, Lookman offers superior pace and one-on-one skills, which are qualities Arsenal is eager to enhance.

Rodrygo remains another younger alternative, but there are some reported reservations about his age.

Atalanta is reportedly insisting on £45 million, and although that price may appear high, Arsenal’s recruitment team will consider it in light of the 27-year-old’s exceptional output and tactical flexibility.

However, considering the player’s wish to depart, there is a possibility that a deal could be reached for a lower sum, although Arsenal will face competition from several clubs for his acquisition, including Barcelona.

Should the Gunners proceed with an official offer, it would emphasize their commitment to enhancing immediate quality and depth in preparation for a season filled with significant expectations.
