Liverpool issues significant injury update amid Arsenal’s title challenge.

During the March international break, Liverpool has encountered another injury setback.

The club has announced the status of Ryan Gravenberch after the midfielder withdrew from the Netherlands squad during this period.

Gravenberch, who has been performing exceptionally well for Liverpool this season, was called up to represent his country alongside teammates Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk for two Nations League matches against Spain this month.

Unfortunately, Gravenberch has had to exit the Netherlands camp due to a “fitness issue.”

As a result, he will miss both matches against Spain and has returned to Liverpool for evaluation.

In their official statement, Liverpool noted: “Ryan Gravenberch has left the Netherlands camp and will not participate in their matches this week.

“The Liverpool midfielder had joined his national team, alongside Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk, for a UEFA Nations League double-header against Spain on Thursday and Sunday.

“However, the Dutch team announced on Wednesday evening that Gravenberch has withdrawn due to a fitness concern. The 22-year-old will be assessed upon his return to Merseyside, with Liverpool set to face Everton in the Premier League on April 2.”

With Arsenal scheduled to play in the Premier League before Liverpool, Mikel Arteta’s team could reduce the gap to the leaders to just nine points with a victory over Fulham on Tuesday, April 1.

While overcoming the current 12-point deficit with nine matches remaining appears increasingly challenging, the Gunners remain optimistic, especially with the anticipated return of Bukayo Saka.

Saka is expected to be back from injury in time for the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday, April 8.

Last week, Arteta provided an update on Saka’s condition, stating: “He will be present at the Arsenal training ground during the international break, and we hope he will be more engaged with the ball than he has been.

“This means he will be involved in passing, shooting, and running. He has already done a significant amount of individual work on the pitch.

Our next step is to coordinate with others to create a more competitive training environment and assess his performance in that setting.

“He is making great strides and getting closer to full fitness. We will monitor how he integrates with the team and how quickly he can regain his fitness.”
