Rio Ngumoha has yet to extend his contract with Liverpool after turning 18, but his update on the situation suggests it “is all going well.”
Ngumoha is contracted at Anfield until 2028, but having turned 18, Liverpool can offer longer terms beyond his first professional contract.

The expectation was a deal would be announced soon after his milestone birthday at the end of August, but that has not been forthcoming.

Speaking to reporters, including the Mail‘s Lewis Steele, after the win at Brentford, Ngumoha offered a brief update on the ongoing contract talks.

“It’s all with my agent now,” he explained. “I think it is all going well. I am not too sure.

“I just let the football do the talking, I enjoy playing and all of that is in the back of my mind.

“I just play for Liverpool, and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”

It is a familiar answer when it comes to players addressing their future in front of the media, but his answer certainly does not ring any alarm bells as it stands.

Ngumoha has shown no indication he is frustrated with how his development is being shaped at Liverpool, or his game time, which currently sits at 370 minutes across eight appearances.

At 18, he is still being carefully managed while competing against £100+ million talent, and Ngumoha is taking it all in his stride.

“I think because I am still young, the club are just trying to look after me, but we also have some of the best attackers in the world, so competing for places is not easy,” he said, via the

“So it is all about healthy competition and we all just want to make the team win at the end of the day. Whatever minutes we get, we can’t be sulking, we just have to go out and show what we can do.”
