BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal is currently engaged in “advanced” discussions to acquire a £84m player, ahead of Liverpool’s interest.

Arsenal has entered into “advanced” negotiations to secure a marquee signing, responding to interest from Premier League champions Liverpool. New sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly making a significant impact as Edu’s successor.

Mikel Arteta’s future is under scrutiny following a trophyless season for Arsenal.

Excluding the Community Shield, it has been five years since Arsenal last secured a major trophy.

Mikel Arteta led the team to FA Cup victory during the COVID pandemic in 2020, achieving silverware in his inaugural season at the helm. However, there has been a notable lack of honors since that time.

One could argue that this is primarily due to Manchester City’s dominance in recent years, except for this season, as Arsenal amassed an impressive 89 points last term, only for Pep Guardiola’s team to ultimately receive all the accolades.

According to the table above, Arsenal has made substantial investments in their squad, and discussions are beginning to surface regarding whether Arteta is the right manager to end the club’s lengthy wait for a league title, which has spanned over two decades.

Under Arteta’s leadership, the team has undoubtedly transformed into an elite-level side, as evidenced by their journey to the Champions League semi-finals. Consequently, reports of a potential departure for the 43-year-old have been rare, with the prevailing view being that Arsenal continues to place trust in him.

“It’s a remarkable achievement, in 2025, to go five years without winning a trophy and still be the manager of a top club that isn’t facing pressure – from us, from anyone in the football community, or even from the Arsenal fanbase,” remarked Sky pundit Gary Neville.

“That’s an extraordinary accomplishment because we believed those days were behind us, where such patience could be granted. I consider it a positive thing: typically, after five years without a trophy, one would expect to see a manager…

It’s important because you believe there is progress.

Arsenal is in advanced negotiations to acquire Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres. However, this situation may not remain stable for long if Arsenal fails to end their trophy drought soon. Berta is fully committed to supporting Arteta with crucial signings that will strengthen the squad and provide Arteta with the best opportunity to achieve success. Reports indicate that Viktor Gyokeres is a primary target for Arsenal.

The “massively underrated” Sweden international seems set to depart from Sporting after scoring 50 goals across all competitions, and some media outlets claim that Arsenal has already proposed personal terms of £135,000 per week for him to join (A Bola).

  • Recently, CaughtOffside has revealed more captivating updates regarding this situation. The outlet states that Arsenal’s negotiations to sign Gyokeres are at an “advanced” stage, and they are currently leading the pursuit for his signature, outpacing both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Arteta’s team is reportedly nearing a five-year contract for the striker, but CO suggests that the deal is actually valued at approximately £9 million per year, rather than the previously speculated £7 million.

While Liverpool and United continue to compete, it is emphasized that Arsenal holds the advantage, with the former Coventry City star, who has an £84 million release clause in his contract, seemingly on the verge of returning to England.
